Hacked?

I believe my account may have been hacked. I noticed that I seemed to have commented on my own blog post yesterday, but that wasn’t me. (I wasn’t home at the time). I’ve also had a lot of activity from one particular, new reader that I’m concerned may have done it. At any rate, someone seems to have commented on my blog in my name… only it wasn’t me. I’ve changed my password and enabled the two-step verification. Is there anything else I should do in order to protect myself?

The first step you should take is to change your password. WordPress also supports two step authentication which can further protect your blog:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/security/two-step-authentication/I’m going to add mod look to the tags area of this thread so that staff can have a look too. Don’t delete the comment so that they can review it properly.

I am now all set. I was freaking out (with good reason), because someone out there had access to my blog other than myself. However, in a panic, I spoke to my mom and expressed my sincere concern that I was going to lost my blog. Turns out that it was her. I gave her my old laptop years ago, and I was somehow still logged in. She has never before read or commented on my blog from the laptop, so this is why it happened for the first time. And her comment was very brief and so I didn’t do the math to realize that it was her. I have already changed my password and did the two-step verification, so my account is just safer now. ;) Thank you for your prompt reply. I am VERY relieved to learn that my account wasn’t hacked!!! What a morning!

I’m glad to hear it was your Mom afterall :) On the bright side, you have made your account more secure by enabling Two Step Authentication!
Please print your backup codes and keep them somewhere safe — you will need them to login to your account if your device ever goes missing.
