Hacked?
-
I believe that my site has been hacked or infected by a virus. When I try to write a post, the cursor jumps around and my photos disapear.
I did receive some strange emails asking about upgrading my security on the site from a third party that I did not open but wondering if this is related.
Thanks! The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello!
Sounds more like a browser/computer issue than WordPress. That would be a rather strange hack if it was.
Does it continue after rebooting your machine? Which browser are you using?

Hi,
I am using chrome. I tried changing browsers and rebooting. Neither helped. I can’t even edit the images that are there.I can try on my husbands computer later. Needless to say this is super frustrating!!!
Thanks

I just tried on another machine and it is definitely the website not my computer. Can you provide some assistance? Wondering if I can copy my site to a new domain?
Thanks

Hi,
Still not convinced it’s a hack, but it is very strange behavior. Let’s tag this post and grab the attention of a Happiness Engineer.
It is possible to copy the site to a new domain, but if it’s a code related issue, you’ll just copy the issue onto it. Best to get to the bottom of the problem.

Hi there,
Your site cannot be infected by a virus, as that would mean all of WordPress.com is infected and we would have noticed that if it were the case :)
There’s also no evidence of unauthorised access to your site, but even if there were it wouldn’t cause this – anyone able to access your site will only be able to mess with your content, not with the way WordPress.com works.
On what device are you working? And what browser and operating system exactly, including version numbers, are you using? You can find that information here:
Please take a screen shot of that page and upload it to your site’s media library. Then let me know so I can take a look.
Are you using the editor at My Site ->Blog Posts to write your posts, or the editor in the WP-Admin dashboard?
I did receive some strange emails asking about upgrading my security on the site from a third party that I did not open but wondering if this is related.
Did you receive this at the email address you use for your WordPress.com account? From what email address did it come, and what exactly did it say?

And just to confirm, we’re speaking of the site, http://sixkiwimonths.wordpress.com/, correct?

In the end i realized that somehow there was a bug in the HTML code. I copied it into a word doc, removed the code and then pasted it into a new post. This seems to have done the job. Does that make sense? (sent from a tiny keyboard)

You have the right site but I had deleted the buggy versions prior to your response. (sent from a tiny keyboard)

Did you copy-paste the content in from another website, or from a word processor like MS Word? That would explain it, yes.
When you copy content from other sources it often contains its own HTML, or code that gets (poorly) converted into HTML in the editor, and that can have strange side-effects.
To avoid this, first paste the content into a plain text editor like Notepad, and then copy it into your site from there. That should strip out all formatting and invisible HTML.
