Hacked Account

    My account was seemingly hacked. Everything on the back end was deleted and someone told me that my page was turned into something else completely but that’s not up anymore either. When I logged in to check it out, I changed all my passwords and deleted someone who had given themselves admin privileges. What else do I need to do? How do I recover all the deleted content? Everything is gone…

    Hi there,

    Apologies, but we can’t help with your issue directly because we don’t host your site on our WordPress.com managed hosting.

    To explain, we are a fully managed hosting provider and use a custom server environment that is optimized for WordPress, provides built-in security and performance improvements, as well as in-house support for your site questions.

    Because of the way we’ve optimized our service, we also use a customized version of WordPress that is different (under the hood) from what you use at your current provider. As a result, we do not have access to your site and are not familiar with the source of your issue.

    You definitely have the option to move your site to us so we can provide in-house help, but as it stands now, we cannot help since it is hosted elsewhere. The good news is that help is available here at the open-source WordPress forums: https://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting

    If you have verified the account, passwords, and Jetpack have been changed, then you have taken the necessary steps to ensure your account is secure. Unfortunately, it may be difficult to recover all of the deleted content.

    If you have a backup of your website, you may be able to restore the content from the backup. If you do not have a backup, you may want to consider trying software programs that specialize in data recovery. These programs can search your hard drive for any deleted files and allow you to recover them.

    If you are unable to recover the content, you may need to start over and create new content for your website. It is important to ensure your account is secure and to regularly back up your website in order to prevent any future issues with data loss.
