Hacked Blog
-
A few years ago I registered gameboygeek.wordpress.com but didn’t do anything with it. Now it appears someone hacked it over the last few days and random blogs are being posted to it. How can I stop that?

It seems that the above site gameboygeek.wordpress.com was registered here on February 2, 2017
Is it possible that you registered a very similarly-named site?

Hi there,
As justjennifer mentioned, gameboygeek.wordpress.com was only created a few weeks ago. You are referring to a site a few years old, did you create a site with a similar name using a different user account?
gameboygeek.wordpress.com is not owned by the account you are logged in to.

hmmm. I think I had done it under (email visible only to moderators and staff) but it doesn’t appear that I have that login. So I’m not sure but since it was recently registered, maybe I relinquished the name gameboygeek.wordpress.com and someone else decided to take it.
My current site is at gameboygeek.com and I was originally going to use wordpress for the site but ended up using something else.
It looked like I had the gameboygeek.wordpress.com feed going through my feedburner so when this new person started putting up blogs it started going out to my email list (which is how I found out about it). But I’ve since removed that feed from feedburner.

Hi there,
I did a bit more digging and our system shows you owned gameboygeek.wordpress.com a few years ago and deleted it. When you did that the WordPress.com address became unavailable and all the content was removed. I searched for that email address and found no matching users.
A few years later, the address was recycled and then registered by somebody else. There is more information about recycling blog addresses here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/
So that explains why posts from that site have started to appear in FeedBurner. You haven’t been hacked :)
Come back to me if you have any questions!

Thanks for going that extra effort. I definitely didn’t remember deleting it, but I’m sure I probably did!
