Hackers and "username".

When I changed Username to “gustafsvideobloggbugge” the link to all the bloggs of the authors also changed.
    Link: http://gustafsvideoblogg.wordpress.com/author/gustafsvideobloggbugge/
I made this change due to a warning for attacks on wordpress. My host for another webb, Loopia, recommended all wordpressusers to change username and password.

If this linksolution is standard the hacker allways have the “username” given openly. They only have to hack the “password”. I want that to change back the link to http://gustafsvideoblogg.wordpress.com/author/gustafsvideoblogg/ that was the link before.

    Friendly, Carl Gustaf Olofsson.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I understand what you are saying, but it sounds like strange advice to me.

Basically the supposition is that if you have a blog xxxx.wordpress.com and your user name is xxxx then a hacker “only” has to guess your password as they know your username already – so you would be more secure changing the username, say to zzzz.

But if you have a password aaaaaa you can get the same amount of security as you would have got by changing your username to zzzz if you changed your password to aaaaaazzzz.

As you have found out changing the username has implications and problems – I would say only change the password but make it longer if you are worried about security.

If you are really paranoid use two factor authentication.

The advice is not appropriate for WordPress.com. Please search the forums here for related issues before taking irreversible action like deleting a username.
