Hacking and spamming
-
Comedybeat.com has received 60+ linked to & comments to a post from July 9(?), 2013. I Tried to check that post a few times, but got msg from Safari that server not available or can’t connect to server. I had linked the post to my personal blog, DianeVBI, but now the post no longer shows in the archive or site search. All the links to that particular post (Robin Williams: comedy or drama) are spam, all from some sort of home repair. Comments are spam, but they have all been “approved” not by me. The comments don’t show up in stats. They don’t show up as hits either. Have my blogs been hacked? What to do?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I don’t think you’ve been hacked. I checked the post in question, and all the comments are pingpacks.
I can’t see how you have your comment moderation set up on comedybeat.com, but it’s likely your spam filter just guessed wrong on whether they were legitimate pingbacks or spammy ones. If you mark all the new pingbacks as spam, that will remove them from your site and train your spam filter to recognize similar problems in the future.
If you want to be double sure on the hacking question, you can contact your site host (GoDaddy) and they can check your site for suspicious activity.
Hope that helps! Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks Lizthefair. I marked 63 of 69 as spam. The other 6 i’ve left for the time being because they are actually in real English and the comments make sense. They must be spam, though, because the senders’ IDs have same format as the others.
Why are they all going to one post from 2013?
Someone else set up the site. Where and how do i set up comment moderation parameters? -
I’ve found comment moderation under settings/disscussion. Not sure how to ward off this particular family of spammers. Manual approval? As far as keywords, they have no distinguishing words that might not be in a legitimate comment.

That’s going to depend on your spam filter. Do you know if you have any kind of spam protection on your site? If so, what are you using?
