I have been told that WP accounts , including mine, have been hacked and are being redirected. Please let me know. Please check out this link that was send to me by someone who said that my account has been redirected. https://fixmywp.com/blog/detect-clean-wordpress-malware-redirect.php?fbclid=IwAR19VExLhcFOKLtXOVfDlRbNebj_EZNGfxu17m0oz3xmT0CJ5fxPfJzHtpo

  • Hi there,

An account cannot be redirected. An account is the username you use to log in to manage your sites.

I see no evidence that there has been any unauthorised access to your account, and your site does not have any malware that would cause visitors to be redirected. If visitors to your site are being redirected to other websites it’s most likely malware on their own devices/browsers doing it.

Fixmywp is a third party WordPress support service, i.e. they’re a service that has nothing to do with either WordPress.com or the open source WordPress software, that charge people a fee for helping them fix their sites when they break. There are many such services available, many of them legitimate service providers in the WordPress ecosystem, but many of them also shameless scams.

I’m not familiar enough with Fixmywp to say which side they fall – looking at their website and some online reviews they seem legitimate enough.

But there’s nothing they can do to help you with your WordPress.com site, as their services are specifically for the self-hosted version of WordPress and there’s no way they could scan your site for malware, as that would require access to our systems, and there’s no way they could change or “fix” anything on your site without you giving them access to your WordPress.com account on inviting them to a new user account on your site. I wouldn’t recommend you do either, as that is an easy way to get hacked :)

Unrelated, I see you’re following a very high number of sites and have hit our bulk following limits a few times already. The Following feature is designed as a way to follow a reasonable number of sites you want to read in the WordPress.com Reader, and not as a way to “build a network” or getting follow-backs for your own site. If you hit our bulk following block too often follows will be disabled permanently for your account.

You mention that too many sites are following mine; I had not idea that such would be a problem. What should I do. If a person follow me by email, is that a solution? Thank you.

  • @equippingblog can you tell us more about your following methods? Are you following because they followed you? Are you following them hoping they’ll follow you back or click through and look at your site / profile? Are you running out of content and interested in following all of those sites closely?

If you’re interested in following topics, there’s a great way to do that instead, so let us know.

Also, let us know if your other issue was addressed sufficiently enough… was that for https://equippingblog.wordpress.com/ or for another site?
