I’m pretty novice at web design, etc., so I am hoping for any/all guidance you can provide! My colleagues and I set up our website for our union in April 2022. After a year, the domain expired in April 2023, so the website was no longer working. We renewed the domain in June 2023, but for some reason, it is not linked to the WordPress hosting site and so the actual site itself is gone (if it’s . The person who originally set up the site left, so her log in email doesn’t work anymore, but we had others’ log ins connected to the site, but now WordPress is saying those log ins aren’t valid. Did we lose our site forever, and do we need to start over? Or is there some way to recover it?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Thanks for reaching out to us. I understand your situation and I’m sorry to inform you that our abilities to assist are somewhat limited in this case, since your site is not hosted on our WordPress.com managed hosting, but instead is using the free open-source version of the WordPress software provided by a different hosting provider.

In these situations, we are unable to access the necessary tools, infrastructure, or server logs to troubleshoot and understand the issue in depth. However, we can provide some general advice and options for you to consider.

But first, let me share a bit about our managed WordPress.com hosting service. With our WordPress.com service, you get a hassle-free managed hosting experience, featuring automatic updates, backups, and advanced security. We take care of the technical stuff so you can focus on running your site. You can learn more about it here: https://wordpress.com/hosting/

One of the options available to you might be transferring your WordPress site to our own hosting. We offer an easy-to-use migration plugin and guide that allows you to move your site to us.

Use the Move to WordPress.com plugin to migrate a self-hosted WordPress site to WordPress.com. Follow the steps in this guide to import your site (including your content, media, plugins, and theme) directly from your wp-admin dashboard. Prerequisites To follow the steps in this guide, you will need: Your source site: a WordPress site with any other hosting provider (referred to as a se

Nonetheless, you are not helpless, and there are plenty of resources for help. The community support forums for the open-source version of WordPress are an excellent help. They are vast with a wide range of participants who may have encountered similar issues. You can check out the forums here: https://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting/

Hopefully, with the help of the community, you’ll be able to find a solution to your problem, or at least clarify whether it’s recoverable or if you should plan for a new start. Remember, a website is never truly gone unless all backups and copies are lost. A server issue or a misconfiguration might be making it seem gone, but it could potentially be recovered.

Hope this information helps, and best of luck with your website recovery!
