Hamburger Icon, blank space, and centering

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello!

I have multiple questions, but will give some context. I am a social media designer for a Pilates business. The owner asked if I would be able to look at the website that she paid someone to create a few years back. I have logged in and made some of the changes she’s asked for, but have found some pretty major issues.

    1) The first issue is that the menu looks entirely different on mobile. On mobile, it has the ‘hamburger’ icon to show the menu, when on desktop the menu is just..there. I’d love for the mobile to have that too. Is it possible to fix this?

    2) There is a big blank white space on the top of the site. I tried to fill it in with color under the header, but it did not work. Is there any way to get rid of this big blank space?

And finally! 3) I am able to center nearly all of the fonts, however, under ‘The Guide’ towards the bottom, I am unable to center it. It says centered on the editor, but it is slightly off. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thank you SO much in advance! I appreciate all the help.

  • Hi there,

Apologies, but we can’t help with your issue directly because we don’t host thepilatespath.com on our WordPress.com managed hosting.

To explain, we are a fully managed hosting provider and use a custom server environment that is optimized for WordPress, provides built-in security and performance improvements, as well as in-house support for your site questions. You can learn more about the performance and security benefits of our managed hosting here: https://wordpress.com/hosting/

Because of the way we’ve optimized our service, we also use a customized version of WordPress that is different (under the hood) from what you use at Google Domains Hosting. As a result, we do not have access to your site and are not familiar with the source of your issue.

You definitely have the option to move your site to us so we can provide in-house help, and we offer a migration plugin that will help you move your site to our managed hosting in just a few clicks.

Unfortunately though, as it stands now, we are not able to help since it is hosted elsewhere. The good news is that help is available here at the open-source WordPress forums: https://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting

The folks in that forum are more familiar with these kinds of issues and are in the best position to help. Thanks!

Hi! On desktop view, the menu just appears directly under the logo. It was like that for a while on mobile as well, however, I must have made an adjustment because now it shows up as the hamburger side bar on mobile. Is there any way I can make the mobile view the same as the desktop view in terms of the menu?? Thank you so much!

Thank you so much! How can I see where the website was made? Please excuse the questions, I’m not a tech person. Thank you!!

    Hi there!

Unfortunately, we cannot assist because your site is not hosted on WordPress.com. It’s a self-hosted WordPress.org site hosted by a different hosting company.

We do not have access to self-hosted sites, so I cannot see the setup of the backend of your account.

    To clarify:

    • WordPress.com is a managed host platform that offers WordPress in a pre-customized server environment already set up for you to build your site. Hosting with WordPress.com is free, and the server, security, updates, and site optimization are all handled by us. We offer free and paid plans that provide additional features for your site based on your needs (plugins, custom themes, etc). You also have access to professional assistance via Happiness Engineers to address any issues you encounter.
    • WordPress.org is a self-hosted platform, meaning you download the WordPress software and install it on a web server from a host of your choosing. You have to pay the host when you’re self-hosting, and the server, security, updates, and site optimization are all handled by you. This gives you more flexibility and control of your plugins, themes, and code but also more responsibility to ensure those things are operating correctly.

Our support page dives more into the differences:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

I recommend contacting your site host, as they would be better positioned to assist you since they have access to your account. Also, the open-source forum community is always available and prepared to help users with self-hosted sites: https://wordpress.org/support/forums

If you’d prefer our world-class support (the yearly Business plan gives you access to 24/7 live chat support, for example), you can migrate your entire site to WordPress.com. I recommend the Business plan for this, as you will get to use the same themes/plugins you already have on your site, but you are welcome to explore other WordPress.com plans.

If you don’t want to migrate to WordPress.com yet, we also recommend checking out Jetpack plans, which include essential features like automatic backups with one-click restores, automatic malware and security scanning, and video-uploading features. These are perfect for self-hosted WordPress.org sites, so feel free to check them out. :)

Feel free to let us know if there’s anything else you need, and we’ll be happy to help.

  • Hi there,

I’ve merged your two threads to avoid duplication.

How can I see where the website was made? Please excuse the questions, I’m not a tech person. Thank you!!

As mentioned we’re not able to help directly but I did take a little time to examine the source code of your site however, and can see it is using the Salient theme for WordPress. The issue you are referring sounds like a display issue related to your theme. This is not a theme we offer on WordPress.com (but one that is created by a separate company) and the good news is that help is available directly from the creators of your theme here: https://themenectar.ticksy.com/

Hope this helps point you in the right direction
