Hamburger pages do not display

  • Unknown's avatar

I have created a blog site with several pages. Initially, all pages nicely displayed under the Hamburger menu automatically. As of today, clicking on the Hamburger only shows ‘Home’, no other pages (both on desktop as on mobile). This effectively impedes navigation through the pages for my users. What could have gone wrong? All pages are still listed under the Pages sidebar and can continue to be edited by myself as admin. Thanks for any tips!

  • Hello there,

Can you remember which menu was set in the site please?

The reason why I ask is because it looks like the menu called Main, is now set to Draft.

You may need to re-add these menu items in the site editor here: https://mederlanders.wordpress.com/wp-admin/site-editor.php?postType=page&postId=2

Thanks for the response, I do not think any specific menu was set… the hamburger thingy just appeared automatically and I liked it. It originally contained a pull down with all pages I had created.

I have looked all over the existing settings in the Editor and I cannot find a reference to a “Draft” setting. I’ve used the setting “Create new menu”, selected “Navigation” and now no pages are listed anymore, so I seem to have taken another step back. I’m not sure how to proceed… those Header sections look overly complicated to a beginner :-(

I’m hoping you can push me in the right direction to restore the original menu, with sincere thanks!

Thanks for clarifying! The “Create new menu” does indeed create a fresh, empty new menu for you to add pages to.

However in the same place as the “Create new menu” is located, you can also re-select any previous menu you had set up. I’ll link the guide for the Navigation Block below; but this screenshot from the guide shows it at the top of the panel, in the “Menu” section:

    The full guide is here:

If you didn’t have a previous menu set up that you are able to re-select, what you can test to add all your pages again is:

    1. Go back to your currently empty menu called “Navigation”
    2. Click the “+” button to add a new link
    3. Select the “page list” item from the menu which comes up, as below:

This should populate the menu with your page links, so that you can then make changes to the menu as you prefer!

Your wonderful instructions have helped me clear this problem, thank you very much. As a first time editor, I’m very impressed with your support!

Inserting a new Page List ultimately resolved the problem.

Perhaps one question in closing… After much fiddling around, I managed to create several obsolete Menus, as illustrated in attached screenshot. I only need to maintain the highlighted Main menu. However, each time I select the “Manage menus” link I land on an error page as illustrated in the second screenshot. Any way around that? Just would like to do some housekeeping.

    Once again, many thanks!

  • Ah, lots of extra menus. I’m actually not positive how best to remove those, but we’ll see if we can find out!

  • So it seems that you should be able to remove the menus from https://mederlanders.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=wp_navigation. Please have a look and let us know if that works.

That link does the trick, thank you for sharing! The “Manage menus” link in the Editor does not, perhaps something to be fixed. Either way, problem resolved, and once again many thanks for great support!
