Hang in WP GUI after inserting Jetpack Blog Subscription widget

After installing Jetpack, I added the Jetpack Blog Subscription widget to one of the sidebar areas (Sidebar Wide on Themify Magazine theme).

There’s a spinning wheel immediately to the left of the “Visibility” button on the widget box, and it spins forever. I hit “Save” and nothing happens. And the widget does not show up on my site.

    I’m running PHP 5.3, WordPress 4.0, Jetpack 3.1.1, and Mozilla 32.0.2.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

    Update on my earlier question:

It turns out that after installing Jetpack I could not enter any commands with the WordPress console. I got internal system error messages and/or the forever-spinning wheel. Couldn’t make any changes at all.

Had to uninstall Jetpack. Now I can make changes etc. again.

However, don’t I need Jetpack for things like Site Stats? Also there are other widgets on Jetpack that I’d like to use. For example, the Blog Subscription and Likes.

Any advice on how to run Jetpack without these problems?

    Thanks!
