Happiness Engineer – Duplicate Home Pages – Please Respond

  • Unknown's avatar

I am using theme Twenty Eleven and am building a website.
I have added parent & children pages successfully but when you view the site there are two home pages. Searching the forum I found a similar thread and the happiness engineer said the template had coded into it a home page and the user created one therefore there are two.

He suggested going to dashboard/appearance/menus and creating a new menu. I did that. It worked (for a while). After playing around in this section more I probably screwed it up but I have duplicate home pages again.

So I went to appearance/menus again and DELETED ALL and started from scratch. After rebuilding the menu I still have two (2) home pages.

Mind you I have only bee using wp.com for a few days but I have tried to figure it out but have exhausted my knowledge level. Please Help…

Thank you for reading my post.

P.S. Here is the thread I found.

Something to add is that the automatically created home does not show up under dashboard/page/all pages but the one I created does.

Here is 2nd similar thread I just found that unfortunately went unanswered so no hints/suggestions for me there.

    Thank you.

    2nd similar thread.

    Hey there,
I am a volunteer in the forum. If you haven’t done so, please try clearing your cache, then look at your site again. It might clear up the issue you are experiencing.

    Clearing Your Browser Cache

If you are experiencing problems displaying WordPress.com pages, clearing the browser cache is a good first step to try to resolve the issue.

Each time you access a web page, your web browser stores a temporary copy of the files needed to display the web page to you. Those temporary files are called the browser cache. If your cache is not updating properly or if it’s stuck, you could be viewing an older version of some of the supporting files that run WordPress.com. If you clear the cache, this will force your browser to fetch all of the files for a website again, so you will see the most recent version of the page.

    Austinsouthsda,
Thank you for responding. As you suggested I did empty my cache. There was a lot in the browsing history. I also read the support document you provided. Google Chrome is on of the recommended browsers which already use. However, I did download the latest version as the document suggested. I am sure that those steps improved the overall condition but I did something else too.

In settings/reading I found something called “front page displays”. I changed it from ‘latest posts’ to ‘static page’. In the drop down called ‘front page’ I found the webpages I created I choose home. In the next drop down called ‘post page’ again i saw the pages titles I created. So I did not have the same situation just duplicating a different page I went back and created a page called blog. Came back and set the post page to blog.

Please go and look at my site. What do you do with the page that is now called blog. Although I intended on adding one at this location (the last page) I don’t think it is a blogging page since it does not have a leave a reply box. It does say: 1. Search 2. Recent Comments 3. Archives 4. Categories. Sounds like a blog but then 5. Meta (Site Admin, Log Out, Entries RSS,, Comments RSS)

So what is this page and what do I do with it????

Remember I have been running WP.com for a total if 72 hrs now. Thank you.

    Hi Auxclass,
The problem ‘shifted’ a bit. I was able to reduce the home pages from two down to one – as you correctly noticed. It is now on the right-side, last page titled “blog” – What should I do with it???

Any Suggestions how to make this a blog page with a leave a reply box – or is it already and I just know how to use it yet????
