HAPPINESS ENGINEERS, PLEASE!

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve asked two questions that have gone unanswered, one of them for days. Can someone please help me? I am going to be at a stand-still soon on my blog.

I’m being told I’ve used 90% of the available media upload space on my blog even though it just renewed in May, giving me 3 GB, and I have an upgrade for an extra 10 GB that renewed in February. This is year three for the blog and I’ve never gone through my 13 GB before. Can someone check if this accurate? Could it have anything to do with using my iPhone to take and upload pictures? Are the files are a bigger size that needs to be optimized?

I hope someone can take a look and let me know what to do. I’ve also been unable to upload pictures using the WordPress app, I’m not sure if there’s any connection.

Thank you in advance for your help!!
(The other less important question: Suddenly when I use Publicize, WordPress automatically includes the link to the post in the Custom Message. I used to have the option of deleting it, but now it’s not visible until the post is published and shared on my fb page. Any way to get rid of it without having to manually go in and edit on facebook?)

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

yes – the two pictures I looked at are about 1.4 to 1.6 MB each – do the math – that burns through a lot of space in a hurry

We can have the staff look – but they will see the same display you see for the media used –

Using large pictures is a waste of server space and bandwidth and is a major reason that search engines downgrade sites – slow loading – it also turns off visitors

Ugh, okay, thanks. Surely there is an app for that!

The pictures need to be optimized before uploading – yes I would expect there is a picture editing App that would help you

here are some more guidelines for pictures

    Optimize Your Images

I’ve actually found that images I’ve processed in in-phone apps end up larger than the original!

I don’t know if this is true for the iPhone app, but in the Android app, you can define the image size before uploading the local draft to your site.

You might be able find more information on the support pages for the app, which are here: https://apps.wordpress.org/support/

    Hi there,

You can confirm how much media storage space you have used by looking in the “At a Glance” section in your WP Admin dashboard here:

    https://ohshecooks.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

Right now, you have used about 12 GB (90% of your available space).

You can upload smaller photos from your iPhone by changing the image upload settings in the WordPress app. To do that, go to Me > Account Settings and adjust the slider under “Max Image Upload Size.” Smaller image sizes will result in smaller image files in your media library.

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

Thanks, guys! I don’t think I can use any plugin apps because I have my blog through .com, not .org, but I was able to change the settings on the WordPress app itself as rachelmcr suggested. I also downloaded some software on my computer and I’m going through the tedious process now of replacing the huge images on past blog posts with optimized images.

But…I’m really happy I don’t have to pay $299 for the business upgrade :)

You have an older account so you should be able to just buy a space upgrade by itself – no need for the business anything

@ohshecooks- In case it wasn’t clear, the reference was to in-phone image editing apps, not plugins for your site (which we can’t use here anyway). I use Snapseed besides my phone’s native image editing program and as I said, most of my edited images end up being larger than the original.

And, I think I mentioned in my above reply that it’s possible to change the size of the image being uploaded via the WP app. That will help with future images you post via your phone.

As far as existing images, if you don’t want to purchase yet another space upgrade, you might want to see my earlier forum reply to another user here:
