Harassing comments

  Someone has become obsessed in a negative way with my blog.

  Everyday I am deleting aggressive messages from this user, but they do not stop.

  It there a way I can ban their ip address or something?

  I already have the comments moderated, requiring email etc.

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Comment moderation is about as good as it gets, I believe.

  Just delete whatever they say without reading. Don’t react. That’s all they want – a reaction. They’ll slink away sooner or later.

  Thanks for replying, I tried blacklisting their email address so hopefully this will end it, it’s just annoying coming to my blog to find several comments from the same person.

  Please be aware that IP blocking is not possible and by blacklisting you may be negatively affecting hundreds of people. You see ISP’s place hundreds of us in the same IP to save money. Also note that anyone can get a new IP and/or a new email address very easily. The bottom line is that you have total control over which comments are approved and posted to your blog. My advice is do not rely on blacklisting; Moderate your comments.

  A little while ago I tried blacklisting their email, and did a mock comment with it.

  It was placed into the spam folder automatically…and as many comments I get mistakenly end up there, it doesn’t look like this method will work too well.

  It’s annoying because they send me tons of comments a day, but it appears the only option is to ignore and delete them daily. Which is kind of depressing.

  Trolls are attention seekers and by posting your brags about blocking it in your Twitter stream you are feeding it’s head. It will give up shortly after you quit acknowledging it in anyway or in any place on the internet. Note also that this is a public forum and every thread here is indexed by Google, so the troll could be watching your distress here and laughing up its sleeve. The solution is for you to choose to stop acknowledging it in any way shape or form anywhere on the internet, keep moderating comments and deleting them.

  You had you answer when lettershometo ou posted above. We cannot edit or delete any forum threads. Only Moderators and Staff can. You can enter the original post you made and mark this thread as “resolved”. Then if we quit bumping this thread by posting to it, it will fall of the front page of the forum so let’s do that. Also note that in the future if you wish you can use the HELP link on the top right hand corner of your Admin page to contact Staff about any support issue.

  It’s the weekend so I couldn’t contact the WordPress staff directly (as I’m impatient!)
