TELL YOU THAT I HATE THE NEW LAYOUT ON DASHBOARD. CAN’T FIND ANYTHING EASILY. IT STINKS

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

HARD TO FIND HELP; CANT FIND RECENT DRAFT; I HATE THIS NEW LAYOUT. WHY CAN’T WORDPRESS JUST LEAVE IT ALONE AS WHEN IT WAS GOOD? EVERYTHING IS DISJOINTED & DIFFICULT. EVEN SAVING A DRAFT POST USED TO BE SO MUCH MORE CLEAR AND EASY TO DO.
WHY DID YOU CHANGE A REALLY GOOD THING?

Are you referring to the “improved posting experience”? If you’re more familiar with the full-fledged dashboard you can sign in at merillion.wordpress.com/wp-admin to access more options and gain more control over posts and pages.

    Dear slfrsn:
Thanks for the info re signing in. I’ll definitely try it.

and the “improved posting experience” – very amusing.

    Thanks again,
    Marilyn

Anytime merillion. Actually in the post editor there’s a banner advertising the improved posting experience. I haven’t seen an official name for it so the quotes were more to indicate that wasn’t an official name. I hope it didn’t come across as sarcasm because I actually love the new editor (though I understand it has limitations).

Hope that solves your issue! :)

    @merillion
Your response is not unusual at all. We are in our second year of seeing market speak to an “improved experience” with the new editor, when, in fact for desktop users the experience has become, more difficult, more time consuming, and less enjoyable. Many threads, some with hundreds of entries attest to the foregoing because most wordpress.COM users haven’t drank the company Kool-Aid, aren’t seeking jobs with Automattic here at wordpress.COm, and aren’t benefiting from making an income from the free wordpress.ORG software.

For those looking for a quick read WordPress gets even more open-source with Calypso update provides an good summary of what’s has been overhauled in the CMS and why the two year project was undertaken. Read more about The Story Behind the New WordPress.com.

You can address your issue the way many of us do. We use the old user interface and the classic editor.

The Admin login link to the dashboard for every blog hosted by wordpress.COM is:

    http://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

    * You will have to replace “name_of_blog” with your actual blog’s name in that URL

You cannot deactivate the new Beep Beep Boop editor but you do not have to use it. For locating the ways and means of accessing the legacy or classic pages for creating posts, editing posts, and for viewing stats see here > Navigating the Classic WordPress.COM interface http://onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2015/04/05/navigating-the-classic-wordpress-com-interface/

On the dashboard of your own blog at
Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add New

    *http://REPLACE_WITH_ ACTUAL _NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php

To create posts in the classic editor for you that link is:

    http://merillion.wordpress.com/post-new.php

On the dashboard of your own blog at
Dashboard > Posts > All Posts one can hover over any post title and click the Edit link. and proceed with editing.

    *http://REPLACE_WITH_ ACTUAL _NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php

it was funny, coming back to wp.com to quickly work up a demo site for a potential client after being away in wp.org world working on ecommerce sites.

after working on my projects there for the last year (in wp.org land), with its classic admin interface, it was a bit of a shock to return and see how clunky the WP interface has now become.

now dont get me wrong. i agree that this over reliance on php etc had to go at some point. you would not believe how clunky it is to try to deliver projects that make use of, say, a wp core platform, woocommerce, and some theme or other, and a whole bunch of plugins,, then constantly worrying about child template files, and conflicting plugins, and and php weirdness, and updates that constantly break things.

so in principle i agree with the tehnical rationale behind the transition. but that is not the issue here.

what is being confused inn this discussion and other discussion like this (inluding matt’s piece on calypso) is the technology used to deliver an admin interface, say like calypso, and the decisions that were taken in designing this new admin interface.

rest, apis, js, and the rest of it has little or nothing to do with lousy interface design.

and that is the problem with this interface.

bad UI design. not its enabling backend technology.
