Harmonic: can I have the post-author icon/avatar shown with the post?

    My wife, kids and I are all posting to our blog separately.

    I’d like a nice big circle of each person shown at left with category, date, etc. I can’t figure out a way to do this. is it possible with Harmonic theme?

    Hi joebelfiore, it’s not possible to display the author’s name or avatar in Harmonic because the author isn’t output in the theme’s code, so it can’t be displayed on the front end (public side.)

    Here’s one workaround you could try, though:

    – Create a text widget for each author.
    – Add a widget visibility condition to each widget to have that widget displayed when the author of the post = that person.
    – Add all the widgets to the Sidebar.

    Doing this would display a sidebar widget for the author of the post only on that person’s posts.

    THANK YOU! I got this working, taking your advice.

    Another thought: it looks like you can do essentially the same thing with the Gravatar image and profile widgets. They key is realizing you can set the visibility to vary based on author — and these will show the same user image as elsewhere. (I got the exact same effect in your TEXT method by grabbing the image source from the gravitar image on the site. :)

    PS – I sure wish there was a bit more flexibility to do this kind of thing on the Static Home page of Harmonic. I’d REALLY like the post list to include an image and/or the author name. Maybe number of comments. Same idea as the “sidebar” could be used with visibility conditions for on/off.

    Glad you found a technique that works for displaying the author on the post page.

    PS – I sure wish there was a bit more flexibility to do this kind of thing on the Static Home page of Harmonic. I’d REALLY like the post list to include an image and/or the author name. Maybe number of comments. Same idea as the “sidebar” could be used with visibility conditions for on/off.

    The only way to accomplish this with Harmonic would be to use the self-hosted version with WordPress running on your own hosting, and make some code tweaks in a child theme.
