Harmonic Portfolio Image Sizing

  • Unknown's avatar

In the Theme details for the Harmonic theme it says,

The single view for each portfolio item is wider than regular posts, allowing you to really show off your amazing images!

but I’ve checked and my images are the exact same size as they are in the blog. How do I make them wider as the details specify? Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

P.s. If I bought the WordPress pkg that lets me customize my themes, would I be able to display my images any size that I wish both in my photoblog as well as the portfolio? I’m wanting to make them both much larger.

    Hi Nita!

Thanks for bringing that portfolio issue to our attention. I gave it a few tries, but I was unable to achieve the look we show on the example page. I’m asking our theme developers about this. I’ll get back to you when I know more!

The Premium bundle does offer the Custom Design upgrade so you could customize both of these options using CSS if you wish:

Thanks Jeremy for getting back to me. I’m going to wait and see what the theme developers have to say and if they can fix it and then see just how big the images are.

I had another question about the portfolio … does that not appear as new content in the Reader when we add projects? It doesn’t seem to and I don’t understand why it doesn’t. Again, it is new content and we all would like to share our new content via the Reader. Can you advise? Thanks again!

    Hi!

I’ll definitely keep you posted regarding the image size.

Portfolio projects are a special type of post on your site and are completely different than normal posts. They will not show up in the Reader or be sent out to subscribers. Only traditional posts will be sent out to those services.

Thank you for your reply re: the portfolio content not appearing in the Reader. I am still in need of assistance with the portfolio image sizing though. I have found other Harmonic themes that are not having this issue. I have gone over all of my settings and do not see where they can be adjusted for this. Can someone please look into this and either tell me how I can fix this or have it adjusted for me? Thank you.

There is a new glitch with my Porfolio page or perhaps, part of the same issue. I tried to add text to the page. On the Harmonic Theme detail page, you will see on their image for the Portfolio page, there is text beneath the word Media. https://wordpress.com/themes/harmonic/ I attempted to add text to my page and it doesn’t show when I preview or publish the page. I have also deleted the original Portfolio page and created a new one as well. No difference. There must be a setting off somewhere. Please assist. TY

There is also a Featured Image on my Portfolio page and it does not show. Nothing about the Portfolio is functioning on my theme.

    Hi!

Regarding the image sizing, are you referring to the phrase below that we discussed earlier?

The single view for each portfolio item is wider than regular posts, allowing you to really show off your amazing images!

If so, I still haven’t heard back regarding this. I’ll be sure to update you immediately once I do!

If you’re having other image sizing issues with the portfolio, please explain a bit more and point me to a specific example on your site.

To create this appearance, you’ll need to add a new page to your site and set it to the Portfolio Page Template on the sidebar as shown here:

    http://d.pr/i/17v8y

It looks like you’ve done that here:

    https://faireunvoeu.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=5352&action=edit

For this page to work properly, you will need to change the post slug to anything but “Portfolio” using the Edit button shown here:

    http://d.pr/i/1cox6

For example, “Media” or “Work” would work.

There is also a Featured Image on my Portfolio page and it does not show. Nothing about the Portfolio is functioning on my theme.

The featured image on the portfolio page template will not appear on the actual page. For example, the page shown on the demo here does not show a featured image:

    https://harmonicdemo.wordpress.com/media/

Could you explain where you thought the featured image would appear?

Thanks so much. The edit on the slug worked perfectly for my Portfolio page and it also remedied the feature image on that page and it does appear now as I thought it should.

Yes, I am still waiting to hear from you re: the original question of the image sizing in the Portfolio. I did see this beautiful example of the Harmonic theme in use and while she obviously is customizing her theme above the free use customizations, her images are the size expected per the theme detail so again, I do believe it’s a setting I have in place or do not but I cannot figure out which one it is. Maybe having a look at her site will shed some light on it. The url to hers is: http://claremackenzie.net/ Thanks again for you help.

    Hi Nita!

I heard back from our developers regarding the oversized portfolio image mentioned in this statement:

The single view for each portfolio item is wider than regular posts, allowing you to really show off your amazing images!

That feature was actually never implemented into Harmonic. As such, we’ll be removing the mention from the theme documentation.

I checked out the site you mention. Could you clarify what images you’re referring to that are currently oversized?

  • Unknown's avatar

Well ok then. LoL Glad we got that sorted out. =)
On the site I sent above^ any page you click on shows larger images than what displays in my blog or my portfolio. I did some testing last night to compare and it seems that when you create a full width page and insert an image, it will show in that larger size so that ‘s kind of a workaround however it will no longer be in the portfolio which the theme is promoting so much. She’s got a nice workaround to show larger images with nested pages and I’ll probably just follow suit. She’s really made it an even more beautiful theme by unbolding the font and giving it a more polished professional look. Thanks again for all your help sorting this all out.

Ah – you’re right. She’s using a full-width page for every page. She’s actually not using the portfolio post type at all. If you setup a page as full-width and then insert an image, you’ll have extra room on the page to display a bigger image size!
