Harmonic Theme Bugs
-
I would like to use this theme but I’ve found some bugs on my test site at: http://svnart.wordpress.com
Summarized as follows, divided by page type they occur on:
front page:
- tagline is initially visible, but after a site logo is added, then removed it will not display again.
- dual scrollbars (seen in firefox and safari)
- portrait mode portfolio project thumbnail causes background display issue. some overflow of background is visible in full screen
posts page:
- Main menu – sub menu item not showing on posts page (but still shows on front page)
- infinite scroll not working / no “next 10 posts” button even if disabled
If it needs to be a public blog, please advise on what I need to do to avoid sending out pingbacks, comment notifications, etc. as my test site is seeded with content from my production site.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Despite activating custom content according to:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/portfolios/ … which says:
“In your site’s dashboard, go to Settings → Writing → Your Custom Content Types and make sure the “Portfolio Projects” option is checked.”
My trial of the harmonic theme doesn’t feature project entries in the portfolio section of the front page. Whereas posts and page content seem to operate as intended.
This doesn’t absolutely indicate a bug, more likely PEBKAC.
Appreciate any advice…

Hi @dggerhart,
I have featured images in all my portfolio items so they show up on the front page. However, I just reproduced this by removing the featured image and the project is displayed by a blank bar with no link to click. (change to a dark bg color to make it visible)
I don’t think this is intended behaviour so I would consider this a bug.
@staff I know Harmonic is a new theme, but please have a look at these reports. I’ve managed to (hopefully) disable pingbacks and scrubbed user comments off my site. I’ve made it public now at: http://svnart.wordpress.com with bugs reproduced.

Thanks, in the time it took you to write this response, I’d discovered the same. It was the empty uncolored box that gave me the clue.
This is an opinion — but I believe helpful — I think the Portfolio images (defined as “Featured” on their respective pages) would be helped if the Front page echoed captions given in / with the Media Library object.
Great new Theme, though.

somnivision – thanks for your reports about these issues with Harmonic.
posts page:
– Main menu – sub menu item not showing on posts page (but still shows on front page)
– infinite scroll not working / no “next 10 posts” button even if disabled
These two issues should now be fixed – if you clear your browser cache and reload your site, you should get the new version.
dual scrollbars (seen in firefox and safari)
Please let us know if you still see this issue after clearing your browser cache as it should be resolved.
tagline is initially visible, but after a site logo is added, then removed it will not display again.
We see the missing tagline on your site, but so far we haven’t been able to replicate it in order to determine the cause. Do you remember the exact steps you took before the tagline disappeared? Knowing the precise order of actions you took will help us tremendously.
portrait mode portfolio project thumbnail causes background display issue. some overflow of background is visible in full screen
If you’re still seeing this issue, could you please provide a screenshot so we can see what you mean? Is it on the homepage, or elsewhere? Here’s a guide on how to make a screenshot, if you’re not sure: http://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/
You can upload the screenshot – in a graphic format like JPG, PNG, or PDF – in your Media Library so I can see it. Thanks.

dggerhart – Portfolio projects do require a featured image to be displayed properly in most portfolio-oriented themes, and again, most portfolio-oriented themes (like Espied and Illustrator) do not display captions on the portfolio homepage, to keep it clean and minimal. If you notice any further issues with Harmonic or would like to suggest or discuss enhancements to portfolio themes, it would help us out a lot if you could please start a separate thread where we can talk more easily, so our discussion doesn’t get lost in the middle of an unrelated bug-report thread. Just add the tag modlook in the tags area of the post so that a staff member is sure to see it. Thank you!

@ kathrynwp Thank you for the quick turnaround! I’ve just verified the following are fixed:
front page:
– dual scrollbars (seen in firefox and safari)
– portrait mode portfolio project thumbnail causes background display issue. some overflow of background is visible in full screenposts page:
Main menu – sub menu item not showing on posts page (but still shows on front page)
infinite scroll not working / no “next 10 posts” button even if disabledThanks again for fixing these so quickly! I also noticed the fade effect on the front page works much better or has been removed. I like how this works now as I found it fading in/out difficult to view if the item wasn’t centered on screen.
However, this issue still remains:
front page:
– tagline is initially visible, but after a site logo is added, then removed it will not display again.
I took some time to reproduce and have found a new bug which could be masking this. Here are the steps regardless of whether you have a site logo or not:
Front page:
– customize->theme (blue menu)->portfolio->check “hide Description”
– tagline on front page disappears
– portfolio items on front page and portfolio page are unaffected (ie. no description change)I hope this helps.

Thanks for confirming the issues that have been fixed!

Thanks so much for providing these steps for the disappearing tagline issue. We’ll do some further testing and keep you posted.

customize->theme (blue menu)->portfolio->check “hide Description”
We’ve removed this checkbox since it was in a confusing location.
Instead, there is now a checkbox to “Hide Tagline,” in the Customizer under Theme > Title. It’s currently checked off on your site, but if you’d like to display the tagline, just uncheck it.
Thanks again for helping us to track this down, much appreciated.

I just tested this out and it works perfectly on the tagline. At this point I feel I should be able to start migrating my production site to this theme :)
Thanks again for keeping in touch and the quick fix, I really appreciate all your help!
In the future, do I need to make a public site to demo bugs or can I keep it private? (As I understand, staff members should still have access regardless)

Thanks for confirming that all is working as expected.

You can keep it private as staff can still access those sites, and if you add the tag modlook to the tags area of the thread, it’ll ensure that a staff member sees your post.
Thanks again for helping us make Harmonic better – good luck with your site!

@kathrynwp Thank you for your kind words!
I’ve started using Harmonic on my actual site now at: http://somnivision.wordpress.com/
I’ll keep your notes in mind for future posts :)

Lovely! The site looks great and I’ve added it to the theme’s showcase page. Thanks for sharing it. :-)

Hi,
I just started using Harmonic theme for my site last night. It took some figuring, but I’m getting there. I’m curious about the site title – tagline as when I try to have a long enough phrase that takes up two lines… it needs more line spacing as the line below converges on the line above. I don’t see anyplace to address this.
you can see it here:
http://www.johannwolf.comthanks

Hi spacemonkey – both your title and your tagline look good to me in Firefox 32/Mac 10.9.5.
Could you please upload a screenshot of what you’re seeing to help in troubleshooting?
Here’s a guide on how to make a screenshot, if you’re not sure: http://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/
You can upload the screenshot – in a graphic format like JPG, PNG, or PDF – in your Media Library so I can see it. Thanks.
Please also let me know:

2) Operating system
3) Browser and versionIf you’re not sure, please visit http://supportdetails.com/

If anyone else has questions about Harmonic, please start a new thread in the Themes forum rather than adding your question here. Thanks!

spacemonkey – I noticed that you’re pointing johannwolf.com to your WordPress site at the registrar level, but that’s not a method we support, and you’ll find certain things aren’t working. For example, you won’t be able to access your dashboard here: http://www.johannwolf.com/wp-admin In addition, masked (framed) domain redirection means that search engines won’t be able to properly index your site.
To correctly point your domain johannwolf.com to johannwolf.wordpress.com you’ll need the domain mapping upgrade.

Thanks Kathryn,
I’m curious – when you saw the front page was the tagline a single line or two. I changed it since I wrote that – back to one line.
When there is two lines they slightly overlap the text.
I can’t find any control mechanism to adjust line spacing.I’m using Chrome. Mac.
Thanks for your attention.
johann

I’m curious – when you saw the front page was the tagline a single line or two.
It was a single line: “every creation begins with an idea”
Could you please give me the exact text of your longer tagline so I can test with it? Thanks.
