Harmonic theme – confused

  • Unknown's avatar

The Harmonic theme is extremely confusing to me. I love how the demo looks, but for the life of me, I cannot figure out how to make it look the same, even after scouring through the support page for the theme… I love how when you scroll you just go through various photos.. but right now all my photos are displayed like posts with comments sections,etc..

Could someone please please help me on how to set up this beautiful scroll thingy?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I just learned more about this within last couple of days… I was baffled, too. You have to set your home page as “front page” in the page attributes settings when you are in edit for your home page.
Then you have to select the “order” for whatever pages you want to be able to scroll down thru on that page – like it does in the demo. It allows a maximum of 5 pages only, and you can do less by hiding some if you like. This link helped me a lot:

    Good luck!

I actually came to the forum to figure out how to delete the link button (Read more) that appears on the landing page (every page). I do not want it on any pages. If anyone knows, please help. Thanks!

    Go here:
    https://harmonicdemo.wordpress.com/front-page-setup/

This is the order of the images that are able to be displayed on your Front Page (you have to assign the page attribute as ‘front page’ or you won’t get the multiple images):

The Front Page Template features five sections:

    1. Title: Displays your site’s title and tagline. If you opt for a Site Logo, it will be displayed instead of the site title.
    2. News: Displays your latest posts.
    3. Page: Displays the page title and content from the Front Page Template.
    4. Widgets: A special widget area only displayed on the front page.
    5. Portfolio Front: If you have a portfolio, your most recent projects are displayed here.

The you can choose which page images to allow toshow on the Front Page thru your Customizer:

Go to the Customizer under Appearance → Customizer.
    Click Theme.
    Click Visibility.
From here, you can check the box next to each section you want to hide.

Play with it, it may take a while but once you manipulate it enough, you’ll be like, “Ah Ha!”

One thing that I couldn’t figure out and not sure it will allow without editing CSS is how to delete the ‘Read more’ buttons that show up on top of the images.

Oh – And under Page Attributes, on each page you allow to show on your Front Page, you have to assign the Front Page as the Parent, and then enter a number in the Child field to determine what order the images will appear.

OK so If I’ve understood I have to create pages where images are uploaded and then linked it to the front page right ?

You’re not creating pages just to have images appear – or I guess you could.
But the images that show up on the Front Page are the individual hear images form those child pages – those 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. pages you’re linking as Child pages.

So if your Title page has a photo of a dog as its header, that’ll show up on the Front page as the top or 1st image.

If your News (or latest posts) page has a picture of a cat as the header, that image will show as the second image on the Front page.

The image set as heaader on your actual Front page (say a pic of a shark), the shark pic will show as the 3rd image down… etc.

Under Visibility is where you check or uncheck if you do or don’t want any of these specific pages to appear on that multi-image Front Page.

(sorry – typos – individual header – not hear – images)

So in other words – if you already have those 5 topic pages set up and populated with content and a header image, those header images are the pictures that show on the Front page.

If you don’t have those pages set up, then yeah, would need to add pages with header pics in order to have something to link to on Front page. I’m probably not explaining it well. Harmonic has it’s evil side ;P

    Hello everyone!!
I have read this thread thoroughly (and others) but I am still having issues figuring out this theme.

How do I add pages that link on the top (not ones that are going to scroll through on the front page)

    For example: http://phdavies.co.uk/

His front page scrolls through three images (awesome, I got that part working)

BUT he also has links on the top (blog, about gay lit review, ect)
That is what I want! Links on the top in the “title” bar!

I tried making a new page with like, almost every setting combination I could think of but that didnt do it!
    Any advice is appreciated!

I think this is what you are looking for…
    Go to Appearance.
    Menues.
    Create a Primary Menu.
Add your Pages/Posts to that Menu.
    Save.
    Refresh.
The pages you saved to your new menu should now appear as Tabs on all pages.

(That goes for any theme you use. Gotta create a menu.)
