Harmonic Theme Frontpage Bugs

  • Unknown's avatar

I really like the new Harmonic theme but I’ve noticed a couple of issues in using the Frontpage Template.

On #slide1 the image I’ve used is 1216px wide by 405px tall but when viewing the website about 25% of the image on either side is cropped. If I reduce the height browser window however it appears to zoom and show the whole image width while cropping the height.

Is there a recommended image height width for this section?

On #slide2 (a list of post titles) is there anyway to limit the number of posts shown?

On #slide3 the images I’ve used appear to have been made transparent and the scrolling effect means that only a couple of images/text can be seen properly – how can I resolve this?

Lastly when using the footer menu to select the slide sections of the frontpage the scrolling seems to stop at strange places eg ensuring that the bottom of the portfolio slide (#slide5) is aligned with the nottom of the visible page meaning that you have to scroll up to find other content.

Surely scrolling between sections should end up with the top of that section immediately below the site title/nav bar?

Any advice from the wordpress community welcomed.

    Thanks

    Thanks for the response.

I had followed those instructions to set up the theme and use the scrolling frontpage template.

I’m looking for a specific response to resolve the issues outlined in my first post. These issues do not appear to affect the demo site but are prwaent on IE Chrome (windows pc) and ipad ios7. They do not seem to affect mobile viewing (android)
    Thanks

    Hi The Ginhouse Rocks

Thanks for getting back to us about the new theme Harmonic. I’m the creator of Harmonic, and I’m really pleased you’ve been giving it a good test as you are using it.

I’ll try and respond to your questions for you now:

    1. The image for the background should scale proportionately. This can mean some either height or bottom is missing from the image, depending on it’s ratio.

    2. Currently there is no way you can control the amount of images on the front on WordPress.com. We can consider this as an enhancement if enough request go on, but it does output 7 currently.

    3. As you scroll the transparency should resolve itself on portfolio items. This does depend on your screen size though. It certainly shouldn’t remain transparent all the time. The idea is it fades in as it appears.

    4. The issue you are reporting sounds like something that was resolved in a fix before your report it. Which is a little bit odd. I’ve just tried and I’m unable to replicate this again. If you could test again clearing cache that would be great.

If you are able to replicate any issues or find any bugs, it would be great to know what screen size, what operating system and anything else (including videos and also screenshots) that can help us to track it down and replicate.

Again, a huge thanks for being an early user of Harmonic.

    Thanks
    Tammie Lister

I am unable to get the site name on the title screen. The site description shows up, but not the site name in a white box. Anyone else having this problem?

  • genesis5020 – the word “Harmonic” that you see in the demo is actually an image, which is uploaded using the Site Logo feature. You can upload one in the Customizer under Site Title > Site Logo.

    Hi,

since this thread is about the Harmonic theme front page I’m adding my question here as well:

I just got the theme today and so far it has been easy to work with and customize. The only thing I’m having trouble with is

    a) The background image /featured image on the front (home) page seems to get zoomed in once I upload it and thus becomes blurry. This is really inconvenient for a movie website. The image I uploaded is 4MB big – I know that’s too big – but I wanted to test with an absolutely high class, super sharp image, which it is not anymore after I upload it as background image.

    and

    b) How do I get rid of the “read more” box/button on each page?

    Thank you!

  • Klara –

    b) How do I get rid of the “read more” box/button on each page?

This custom CSS should do the trick:

    #single-wrap .scroll {
      display: none;
    }

Your other question will be answered separately.

    Thank you kathrynwp, that worked!

Btw. now my background image in my front (home) page has disappeared completely (I removed the “featured image” from my front home page – bu this shouldn’t interfere with the background image, should it?)

  • wearesisyphos – if you try removing the custom CSS I gave you, you’ll see that it doesn’t change the background image on your front page, so that’s not the culprit. Please try undoing any changes you’ve made since the background went away. For example, you’ve now hidden all your optional front page sections:

yeah, I did that, but it was like that before, when there was still an image.
I just tried whether this had anything to do with it.

do I need to set a featured image which will be my bg image?
’cause the background image went away once I deleted the featured image and I begin to think I never had a bg image to begin with…

  • Unknown's avatar

Karmatosed – thank you so much for your response. Re the title slide background image is there an ideal height to width ratio that means it will display 100% width – with that info I can resize my images accordingly.

I’ll have a look at the transparency issue again tomorrow. I think part of the issue is that my page is too long?

Thanks again for your help and congratulations on a great looking theme!

Please put your featured image back and see if it looks like you want it. As Harmonic’s showcase page says:

Single posts and pages with a featured image are led into with a full-page image.

…so what you may be referring to a background image was likely your featured image for the post.

If you need further help, could you please start a new thread so we can continue there? This was theginhouserocks’s thread to begin with and since your issues are different and not quickly resolved, it would be better to have your own thread. Add the word modlook to the tags area of the post to be sure a staff member sees it. Thanks!

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi theginhouserocks,

There is no ideal ratio as each screen can be different. It simply scale proportionately. I’d say the best one is to find a ratio that works on desktop or whatever device you want as your ‘full image’. From there, the image can scale up or down.

    Thanks

    Karmatosed

Thanks again for your help. Without my doing/changing anything the transparency issues and the alignment when using the footer menu to move between sections seem to have been resolved!

With regard to the title image I had another look this morning. I created a checkerboard pattern of 100x100px squares and found that the optimum display was an image 2400x1400px.

This image displays the full 2400px width although the top 100px was ‘hidden’ under the nav bar and the bottom 200px similarly hidden under the footer menu. This is a rule of thumb and I’ll now look to create my title image based on these dimensions with no vital content in the hidden areas.

Hopefully this information might be helpful to other Harmonic users.

Hi there, I’m adding another question to the “Harmonic Frontpage” problems thread.

I think I’ve done everything properly uploading background images and choosing sections to show/hide.

I’ve chosen to SHOW the “News” section (that is : my latest posts). I can’t see the links to the posts, however they are there “somewhere”, since the mouse recognizes the click links … what’s wrong ?

The blog I am working on is trythesky.wordpress.com

I’ve been trying to figure this out for hours… Thanks !

  • Hi fernandavanegas – I see the issue you’re having and will report it to our developers so they can take a look. Since you only have a couple of published posts at the moment, that could be what’s making the issue more prominent, but we’ll keep you posted here. Thanks for the report.

    Hi;

I like this theme, but for now i want use it without frontpage, i prefer the classic homepage with the list of articles. But, scrolling up and down the homepage, footer and header display, making my blog look like a cinema 21:9 widescreen. There is a solution? at least for the footer, the header is not really annoying.

    Thanks, Luca.

  • HI armintstark – I found Harmonic running on this site: http://fortebastiani.wordpress.com/

I’m not sure I understand what you mean by this: “making my blog look like a cinema 21:9 widescreen.”

Could you please start a new thread in the Themes forum and explain the issue in detail or provide a screenshot so I can better understand the issue?

    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/themes#postform

    Please also include:

    – browser and version (i.e. Chrome 36)
    – OS and version (i.e. Windows 8.1)
    – browser window size (i.e. 1630 x 1035)

If you’re not sure, please visit http://supportdetails.com/ and copy out the details.

Add the tag modlook in the tags area to ensure a staff members sees it.

I’m going to close this thread now, but anyone who runs into other issues with Harmonic are welcome to start a new thread.
