Harmonic Theme | Multiple drop menus can be open at same time
-
Hi there,
I notice that if I have sub items in a menu, I can click the down arrow to open that menu – and then if I click the down arrow on another menu, that one opens too even while the first one is still open.
This UX has a strange manual feel to it. Shouldn’t one menu roll up once I go to another? I can’t think of a specific reason why you would want to have multiple menus open – which user then feels they have to manually close.
Also – why the need for the arrow click at all? Expected UX (for me) is that on hover over menu item, that opens the menu. On mobile, tap on menu opens.

Your username is linked to http://wingoodbody.com/
The site identified in the OP is the same one.
That site is not wearing the Harmonic theme. What is the URL of the WordPress.COM hosted blog wearing the Harmonic theme?
Note: We provide support only for WordPress.COM hosted blogs. We do not provide support for WordPress.COM software installs here.
WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
If you are referring to a WordPress.ORG install and if you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there.

Hi there,
We were just chatting but seem to have gotten cut off. This is a deliberate decision on the part of the theme designer (not a bug or a mistake). Since it’s unlikely to change, if it’s a deal breaker for you, you may want to choose a different theme (but keep in mind, Goran has the same thing!)
You may want to consider a self-hosted WordPress.org installation, as the way you want to modify the theme would be something you could do with a child theme. Here’s a bit more about that:

Thanks, got it.
Out of curiosity, what is the UX advantage to this current style? Just wondering if I am missing something re: benefits of current behavior.
Thx.

@ wingoodbody,
Out of curiosity, what is the UX advantage to this current style?
I agree that the setup is less than ideal, especially since every menu item and menu sub-item looks the same, except the one your cursor is hovering over (which is bold).
An advantage perceived by the designer might be that you can see all of the subcategories, or multiple groups of subcategories, at once. It would be interesting to see how second generation links would be handled with this setup.
