Harmonic Theme – Portfolio images in a 'wider' format not working.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I am trying to set up galleries in my portfolio in a ‘wider’ view, as described here

    https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/harmonic/

    on this passage:

“The single view for each portfolio item is wider than regular posts, allowing you to really show off your amazing images!”

Has anyone had trouble with that? If so, can you help me?

I can set up regular pages as “full width”, but that is not possible with projects in the portfolio… I suspect it cannot be done to entire galleries, but only to single images. Still, I have not been able to do so with my projects.

    Thank you.

    Artur

I don’t know what is meant by that. In the Harmonic theme demo the featured images on project pages are the same width as images on the posts page. Also, the featured images on projects are aligned to the right in the demo, whereas in the theme support page the example featured image for a project is centered.

    Hi arturfan,

The discrepancy could be due to a delay between modification of the theme, and the corresponding change in the support page. I’ll tag the topic for Staff attention.

    HI Musicdoc 1,

Thank you for that. As you are on it, It would be really good if the description from the support page became the ‘fixed’ version, as it would be a great feature of the site to display such wide looking images.

Thank you for the chat. I look forward to seeing what happens.

    Regards,

    Artur

    Hey Arthur,

The only way to achieve this layout is to add a single image. You can add one image after the other, but you cannot add images as a gallery, or they won’t display with the same width.

I created a draft sample for you. Take a look at your project list and view, “Test Project Display.”

Notice I added two images, one after the other, rather than adding two images into a gallery.

I hope this helps! If you have any other concerns, drop me a note. Thanks much!

    @ thatrobyn,

I might have misunderstood the issue described by arturfran. I thought his intention was to display the content of projects at or nearer the full-width of the page. Unlike pages, projects do not have optional templates to govern the width of the displayed content.

The Quick Specs section of the Harmonic theme support page indicates that the main column width is 830 pixels. However, some of that width is taken up by the date, category, and tag area on the left side of the post content. This leaves a lot of unused space below those links (date, categories, tags). I found that images embedded in posts on both the Harmonic demo and my test website display at a maximum width of about 723 pixels. I found that images embedded in projects with the Harmonic theme activated display at the same maximum width of ~723 pixels. The combined width of the images in a tiled mosaic post gallery on the Harmonic demo (See https://harmonicdemo.wordpress.com/2011/07/07/winter-journal/) is even less wide, ~657 pixels.

I also found that the maximum combined width of a pair of flush, side-by-side, centered images is about 725 pixels for a project on this theme.

    Hi Thatrobyn and Musicdoc1,

Thank you both very much for the assistance.

Thatrobyn, I looked at the project you mentioned and understood my mistake; thank you. Will “deal” with it all differently… :)

Once gain, thank you very much for the response.

Thanks for checking in, Artur! If I can help as you continue with your site, let me know :)

And musicdoc1, the specs might be a bit misleading. I’ll look into it. Thanks very much!
