Harmonic Theme Site Title

Sure. Sent invitation at 10:38 PM PST for you to be a viewer of the private site harmonick2.wordpress.com.

Looks like you got it now. When I just visited, you had two sections displayed, Title and News, and no unwanted background showing on the front page. The only imperfection I see is a sliver of light color at the bottom of the News section background image (drummer). I don’t know what’s causing that, but I suspect it has something to do with the relatively small size of the image.
-
The main difference I now see between your front page and that of my test site is that when I display multiple sections of the Front Page Template, as you scroll down past each successive section, the background of the previous section remains fixed as you scroll past it to the following section. That isn’t so on yours. I presume you changed that behavior with CSS.

I’ve got it where I want to be! Thank you so much for your help!
The only other thing I’m wondering is about the google calendar widget- I’ve set it up properly and have it set to public but when I add events to the calendar it doesnt update on wordpress. Is there another widget that might be better for displaying events or a way to fix this?
-
Got it! Thank you so much for your help, I am ready to launch this today. Thank you thank you thank you!!
-
Excellent! Your site looks great. We’ll be here if you have any additional issues.
Btw, did you resolve the Google calendar issue? -
May I also have a look on you website musicdoc1?
I’m out of ideas at the moment and willy’s website was really helpful to get some creativity flowing. So I thought maybe I could have a glimpse too?
-
oh my website is: http://www.djtonecraft.wordpress.com if you want to have a look on how I’m progressing.
-
@ therealtonecraft,
May I also have a look
Sure. I’ve changed the visibility setting, so that it may be reached without a password now. The address is https://harmonick2.wordpress.com/. However, willytimba’s site is a far more developed model. I was just demonstrating the front page template, with only the Title section displayed, for him.
It looks like you’ve made a good start on your site. Is there anything you’d like to change?
-
Wait a second, how did you make the homepage display a different background than the other pages?
-
If you’re using the Front Page Template for the homepage, it can have up to five backgrounds displayed. I’ve modified to show you how it looks with all five sections displayed, each with the default background you’ll see unless you add a featured image.
The default background is white, but for demonstration I’ve customized it with a tiled iced fern image background at Appearance > background . So wherever I don’t assign a feature image or custom background, the background will be the tiled iced ferns. All of the pages display the custom background except for the homepage.
- Homepage: Front Page Template, with default background image in each of the five sections. See Setting up the Harmonic Front Page. The default background images can be replaced at Customize > Theme > theme section (Title, News, Pages, Widgets, Portfolio Front) > Background.
- Page 1: default template with no feature image.
- Page 2: default template with a featured image displayed above the title.
- About page: default template with feature image.
- Posts page: custom header.
-
Clarification:
So wherever I don’t assign a feature image or custom background
The second part of this only applies to pages assigned to the Front Page Template, where the default background images of the five feature sections, or replacement images uploaded at Customize > Theme > Theme section > Background, will display instead of the default site background or the custom site background set at Appearance > Background.
-
Okay, Is there a way to make each page o my website have a different background? Can I do something like assign every page to a Front Page template?
-
Can I do something like assign every page to a Front Page template?
Absolutely. But remember that doing so will give you five, not one, background images for every page assigned to the Front Page Template. You can hide the sections you don’t want displayed at Customize > Theme > Visibility, but those settings will apply to every page with that template.
-
Is there a way to make each page of my website have a different background?
I’m unaware of any theme that allows a different background on every page. Evidently you can do so with CSS customization (requires the Custom Design upgrade/Premium Plan).
Here are a couple of relevant threads which provide CSS code which might do the trick:

Short of CSS customization, you can have a different featured image on every page that isn’t set to Front Page Template. Featured images are full-width on this theme, so when you visit such a page the featured image will take up the entire background until you scroll. Scrolling will reveal the default or custom site background.

Sadly I can’t afford to upgrade to the Premium Plan.
What I want is:
1) The homepage should be a landing page with a good picture, there should also be a “latest news” section there which I can use to post.
2) My biography page should be plain without any fancy designs, just a few paragraphs of text and a nice background.
3) My discography will have an embedded soundcloud playlist. I’m not sure how to use the portfolio feature. Is it relevant to this? I’ve read about showing a discography with the portfolio feature.
4) My events page will be blank for now, I’ll add a calender to it once it is ready.
5) No change required to the contact page. -
You’ll be able to accomplish your goals and more with this theme.
1. The homepage and “latest news” correspond to the first two sections of the Front Page template on this theme. You can display only those two sections if you want to. There will be a different background image for each section.2. My biography page should be plain without any fancy designs, just a few paragraphs of text and a nice background.
If the biography page is not part of the FP template, then it will have the website background image or color set at Appearance > Background, or the default white background.
3) My discography will have an embedded soundcloud playlist. I’m not sure how to use the portfolio feature. Is it relevant to this? I’ve read about showing a discography with the portfolio feature.
Projects are added just like posts, but you do it at dashboard > Portfolio > Add New, instead of Posts > Add new. Project types correspond to post categories, and project tags correspond to post tags. Featured images display as thumbnails on the Portfolio page and in the “Portfolio Front” section of the front page. I’ve created three projects to my portfolio for demonstration. You can see them in the bottom section of my front page, and also at the portfolio page, at this address: https://harmonick2.wordpress.com/portfolio/. A link to this page can be added to a custom menu if I choose to create one.
-
Note that the titles of the projects do not display on the front page, but do at the portfolio page. I was unable to determine why.
-
Thanks for the help!
I’ve got exams coming up, so I’ll get back in a couple of weeks or so.
