Has anyone turned blog posts into a book?
-
Long before I discovered blogs, I dreamt about writing a book some day. That dream is still very much alive today and after making 160 posts on WordPress, someone suggested a great idea, “why don’t you print all the pages from SHIMWORLD blog and turn them into a book?” Rather than actually hitting the print key and end up with pages containing unnecessary headers, footers, sidebars, I wonder if there’s an elegant way of doing this project?
All I need is a proper EXPORT tool to let me print the pages elegantly (strip off the blog page banner, no sidebar) presenting the blog post and all its Comments into PDF format. It’s a little ironic tat blogs are supposed to move us into the digital age yet here I am contemplating printing my posts and binding them into a book.
Any thoughts and suggestings welcome!

Actually, you can set up your blog to accomodate a book:
And if you’d like to see a wonderful book in progress on WordPress.com, check out: http://thepriceofove.net
As for printing, export exists. Check your dashboard.

Why not re-write it in book form? A good book needs a good draft after all. Re-write your best posts, fleshing out or trimming as the case may be. Or are you interested in simply exporting it to a format which can be bound for your own enjoyment, not for publication?

One thing to keep in mind, that what publisher’s are going to want to see is something like an MS Word file. They aren’t going to be able to easily deal with an xml file (which is what is exported from wordpress (includes all categories and pages as well).
It would be best to write in MS Word and then put them on your blog by using the “paste from Word” icon on the extended tool bar in the visual editor. That way you already have it in Word form.
I say this from experience since I’ve done some manuscript editing and helped authors out with formatting and such to get things ready to submit to a publisher.

Excuse the b0rked formatting and grammar in my post above. I am really better than that. ;-)
