Has Chateau tagline display been changed?

  • Unknown's avatar

I use the Chateau theme for my tanamerah.com site. A few days ago the tagline, which had never been visible before, suddenly appeared on the published site. There appear to be no settings to control this behaviour.

Has the default behaviour of Chateau been changed? It might have been a good idea to let users of this theme know, because the site looks pants with the tagline stuck after the site title at the top of every page.

Howdy, there have been no major recent changes to the Chateau appearance. Are you referring to the tagline “Mediterranean & Asian Food to Order”? If you don’t want it to show, you can simply remove it from the General Settings of the blog: https://tanamerah.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-general.php

Thanks for the response. I had already concluded that I should remove the tagline from general settings. What is weird, if you say there have been no changes to Chateau, is that the tagline hasn’t appeared up until a few days ago.

  • Perhaps it was the other administrator on your blog? They would be able to modify the tagline as well.

Point is Bryan, that it’s not that the tagline has been modified. The tagline says what it has always said: I wrote it myself when the site was originally set up. But until now it has never appeared at the top of every page! I had always assumed that Chateau was a template that did not display the tagline – I understand that some don’t. But I wrote the tagline anyway, since I thought it might be useful for search engines.

When the tagline suddenly appeared on the site I assumed indeed that the other administrator had changed a setting: only to discover that there is no setting to be changed!

  • Okay, I understand. I’ll double-check with our theme developers to take a closer look.

  • Hi,

We’ve noted a few things when looking into this:

    • we haven’t changed Chateau in over a year
    • the tagline is shown in the screenshot of the theme description on the Theme Showcase page, and Chateau always displays site descriptions unless it’s empty in General Settings of your dashboard
    • the tagline is empty in the en.blog annoucement here

I see that you have the value bundle which includes the Custom Design upgrade, so assuming you’d like to keep the tagline in Settings -> General, If you’d like me to help hide that part, please let me know and I can see if we can hide it by editing your CSS in Appearance -> Custom Design -> CSS.

    Hi Bryan

    Thanks for the reply.

It’s true that I have the custom design upgrade on another one of my sites (Kevan Pegley), I don’t actually have it on the site under discussion (Tanamerah). But thanks for the offer.

I have now removed the tagline in Settings > General, so the site now looks like it used to. It remains a puzzle that the tagline didn’t appear until about ten months after the site was created!

  • This one is definitely still a mystery, but glad you found a workaround!
