Has my Account been hacked? User downgraded from Admin to Contributor

I manage a couple of sites on wordpress.com, among others realcurrencies.wordpress.com and migchels.wordpress.com
Realcurrencies is my main site.
I hadn’t logged into the site for a couple of weeks, and last time everything was normal.
But today I logged in, and I suddenly couldn’t edit some pages. It transpires my user has been downgraded from Admin to Contributor.
I cannot imagine I have done this myself (not even in drunken stupor) and have managed this site for years, without any problems.
Whether it’s been hacked or not, I don’t even really care, but I need to get my user reestablished as Admin, because otherwise I simply cannot manage the website properly.
Is there any way of achieving this?

It looks like the other administrator on your site changed your role. Do you remember who that other admin is? It looks like you added them about 3 years ago.

This is really very embarrassing. Tilasmi Frigge did some SEO work for me a few years back, and I was unaware he was still an admin.
He did me a favor back then, but our friendship went south since then. I’m very worried he is going to damage my stuff.
Is it possible to upgrade my user to admin again?

@realcurrencies – Every WordPressdotcom site has a single owner and that is the person who registered the site on WordPressdotcom.
It should not be possible for any other Admin to demote the site owner from their Admin role. If they try, they will get a warning message that they cannot edit that user.
Given the above and what you have said earlier, is it possible that you are either not the site owner (someone else registered and set up the site for you) or, if you are the site owner, you “temporarily” transferred ownership of your site to this other person you added as Admin? If that is the case, then I’m afraid that WordPressdotcom won’t be able to assist you.

@justjennifer – the OP account is 6 years old – that would have been maybe back far enough when a blog and an account were not hooked together – i.e. there could be a third account that owns the blog with the owner name not matching the blog name
but the staff can see who owns the blog and also I think should be able to see any transfer of ownership
