Has my blog been hacked?
-
I saw a ‘Like’ on a comment I posted to one of the blogs I follow and so, out of interest, went to the person’s blog and was horrified to see that the blogroll contains all of my most recent twenty followed blogs, exactly as they appear, on my Followed Blogs ‘manage’ page. I don’t have a blogroll anymore on the home page, there’s one on a draft page that I might publish later (but without my most recent follows), but the blogs I’ve most recently followed are on this person’s list, too.
Thinking that my blog may have been hacked, I changed my password, logged out then had another look at this person’s blog and found that the blogroll’s title was still there but not the list of blogs. My husband had a look and wondered if it maybe just appears when one’s logged in, so I logged into my account again, and went to the person’s blog – and sure enough, there are my followed blogs again. So is it possible for a member of staff, please, to take a look at this other person’s blog and mine? I’ll subscribe to the email notifications to this and tag it modlook in the meantime.
I’ve never seen this sort of thing before, 20 of the same blogs in the same order is surely not coincidence. The blogroll is on chaosofmemoriesblog.wordpress.com (hope it’s okay to give the URL.) And mine is quietseason.wordpress.com If it’s not a hack, maybe the person’s been messing around with the code? Thanks for any help or information.The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

That’s weird. When I visit their site, I see the 2 sites I follow listed in their “Blogs I follow” area.
Do you see your blogroll if you visit my test site?

bookgrlmn, No. And why would I see my blogroll if I visit your test site? This is nothing to do with a ‘normal’ blog. It’s something to do with someone who has either hacked my account or changed the code in a widget or the blog itself.
I’ve marked my original question with ‘modlook’ which means it needs staff attention. While I realise you want to help, I’d rather you let staff help me. Thanks. -
Unless you’re ‘staff’ in disguise! :-) (And I may have posted this to another in one of your threads, sorry.) I woke late today… brain’s a bit off the planet.

Hi there,
There is definitely something weird going on with the widget on that site, as I saw my list of followed sites in the widget there. I don’t think anyone has been hacked, and the owner of that site hasn’t done anything with the code as user on WordPress.com don’t have access to the code for sites here. Rather, it looks like it might be a bug with the widget itself.
@quietseason
I’ve made an adjustment to the widget on that site. Can you clear your browser cache and then check if you still see your own followed sites on that widget? You shouldn’t any more.

Thanks, Kokkieh, I’ve just cleared the cache and it’s fine now. I did actually visit the site again a few times this morning and the first time there were four blogs (one was a test blog, two were wp sites and the other someone else’s site.) The next time two variants of the current list (I took screenshots of those), then came back here and saw your reply. Thanks for your help – I feel relieved!
PS. to bookgrlmn, sorry if my comment/s seemed a bit off-base. Not intended to be offensive, just my way of writing. Thanks to you too, for trying to help.

Glad it’s working for you now.
The reason I had asked if you saw your blogroll on my test site was because it seemed to me that there was an issue with that particular theme/widget rather than a hacking issue (since I also saw *my* blogroll on their site) and that would have helped in troubleshooting things. Anyway, I’m glad kokkieh was able to resolve things for you. Most questions on this forum are answered by volunteers like me.
