Has the format of eMail notifications to followers changed?
-
I noticed, as of my last post, that eMail followers of my blog now get a full copy of the new blog in the eMail rather than just a notification that it has been posted. Is this a change by WordPress or have I done something to cause this to change? I would prefer that “followers” always be presented with the new blog in context so they can explore other perhaps related posts (eg. via tags), go to a flckr page etc.
Please note, I am very new to blogging so maybe I am misunderstanding something here.
Below is a brief dialogue I had as a result of posting this under “Action Bar feedback” (I accept that it was off topic there, but it happened coincidentally with those changes so I assumed it was connected)
I do not think I am mis-remembering. I just went back and checked on another blog I follow. My email contains a notification and when I click the link in that email I go to the new blog in context on my home page. I believe thats the way my blog worked prior to today.

I am very new to blogging so I will have to take some time looking into these changes before I comment on them.Welcome to WordPress.com!
eMail followers of my Blog used to receive a notification that there was a new post. They could then visit my Blog page itself to read the post.
I think you might be mis-remembering. Email notifications had links to the post, and not directly to the home page, from what I remember.
It is not all that obvious how to get to the blog home page if you want to. Doesn’t this discourage visits to the full Blog?
The goal of the email subscriptions is not to get people to visit the blog home page but rather to get them to visit each new post as it is published.
Since this comment really is off-topic to the other action bar feedback in this particular thread, @alrobro would you mind please opening a separate help request if you’d like to continue this discussion further?

The email-to-followers behavior doesn’t appear to have changed. I did a test post on my blog and the email I received included about two paragraphs from the post along with a “Read more of this post” link. Clicking the link took me directly to the post on my blog. Once there, I could read the post and navigate to the home page or other areas of my site.
I have the “summary” setting enabled, which you can change on your blog by following the steps below:
Go to WP Admin > Settings > Reading. Next to “For each article in a feed, show”, select Summary. Save changes.
