Has WordPress changed the way galleries are viewed?
-
My site is johntodaro.wordpress.com. For over a year I’ve been using Coraline as my Theme.
I often post groups of my photographs as a “gallery”. The way I set up my galleries is by selecting “attachment page” and usually in menu order. Until this morning this would produce the same result if someone clicked on an individual pic in my gallery – the pic would enlarge on its own page and viewers could leave comments etc. It would not generate a black background. For some reason this morning there’s been a setting change which I cannot figure out.
If you go to one of my posts with an attached gallery and click on an individual picture it producess the whole gallery on a black background with directional arrows for navigation. You cannot comment on any picture any more. I have no idea what setting has been changed that brought about this change.
Here’s an example (click on any picture):

btw – My son has discovered the same thing on his blog site this morning (with a different theme) so it seems you guys made some sort of “global” change since yesterday.
I don’t like this new look. Is it possible to get back to the old way of structuring a gallery?
Thanks
John

Since I posted that question above I’ve discovered that WP has made a change so that a gallery is displayed as a “carousel” (black background with directional arrows).
At the moment there’s no way for any viewer to leave a comment which is a problem that WP has acknowledged and hopefully resolve very quickly.
Hopefully WP will also allow us to NOT use the carousel if we don’t want to. I’m sure I’m not the only one who prefers having an option.

We’re looking into possible adding that option, but more than likely we’ll be brining descriptions and comments into Carousel.
For now, you can click the “Permalink” link to see the photo’s attachment page.
