Has WP changed the font used in the post editor?
-
Within the past few weeks, the font that appears when I create/edit my posts is different from the font I have as my default for my published posts. It’s a bit disconcerting. I’m wondering if this is an across-the-board change to all WP blogs or if somehow I’ve managed to change a setting somewhere? I’d like to be able to edit in the same font that I publish in. Thanks for any insight.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I haven’t noticed any chnage to fonts in the post editor. I use only the classic editor. Are you referring to the new Beep Beep Boop editor?

Hi Stacy,
The editor will show the default editor font, or sometimes it will show your theme’s default font. However, if you set custom fonts for your site (in the Fonts section of your site’s Customizer) those won’t appear in the editor. The best way to be sure how your post is going to look when you publish it is to use the Preview button in the editor to preview it directly on your site. :)

Thanks for your reply, Rachel. If I remember correctly, I did customize my fonts way back when. Recently, though, the fonts in the editor just seem way different than I remember. I’ve always relied on the preview function to check the final post before publishing, but now I use it more just to assure myself the fonts are my “correct” ones. Strange.
Perhaps my editor switched from the default editor font to the theme’s default, or vice-versa. I’m going to check what my theme’s default is, but out of curiosity, what is the default editor font? Just trying to figure out why I’m perceiving a change. Perhaps I’m imagining a change that never really happened :)

Hi Stacy,
The default font in the editor is Georgia, Times New Roman, Bitstream Charter, or another serif font. (The exact font that’s used depends on what serif fonts are installed on your computer.)
That said, I checked on a blog that’s using the same Fontfolio theme your site has, and when you’re using that theme you’ll see the theme’s default fonts instead. Those fonts are Open Sans, Helvetica Neue, Helvetica, Arial, or a general sans-serif font.
If you have any concerns about that, you can make a screenshot of what you see in the editor and I’ll be happy to take a look at it for you. (You can upload screenshots to your Media Library under Media > Add New in your WP Admin dashboard, or you can use an online service like Snaggy.)

Again, thanks for all the wonderful information, Rachel. Once I return home later today and get on my computer, I’ll be checking this out and may send you a screenshot!
