Hashtags are not hyperlinking

My hashtags are not hyperlining. I am using the #symbol and the word follows immediately.
Am I supposed to be using the categories and tags function, or what is the correct way to make it hyperlink.

Using the hashtag symbol within the text of your posts will not automatically link like they will on Facebook or Twitter. You need to use Categories and Tags for that function.
Remember: keep the number of tags and categories you use to 15 or less combined. Categories are more generic, like Stores; Tags are more specific, like Macy’s.
