Have a set of HTML posts from Open Salon and want to import them to Webworks on my Mac
-
Hi,
I had to save, by hand, some 300 or so posts from the former blogging site Open Salon. I now have these posts in HTML format, all with file names of the type [date].Title in a directory on my Mac. (So for example, the post made on 5/13/2008 on ‘Racism and Sexism’ is ‘2008.05.13.Racism and Sexism.html’.) I would like to import these posts into WordPress, preferably with the date included. I see that there is a plugin that supposedly helps to do this, but the instructions seem to be for PCs not Macs, e.g. the instructions say ‘upload the plugin directory to
/wp-content/plugins/‘; There is no such directory on my mac, at least that I can find.Is there any way of doing this, preferably as a batch command? The thought of importing 300+ files and then rejiggering the dates by hand makes me tired.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi!
It is not possible to install plugins on WordPress.com, for security reasons. Plugins can only be installed on self-hosted WordPress.org blogs. The difference is broken down here:
To be clear, the plugin would only work if it were uploaded to a self-hosted site. It won’t work just running locally on your laptop.
I’m afraid there isn’t an easy way to upload the posts in HTML format to WordPress.com. You would need to convert it to XML first (as you mentioned). I found this StackOverflow thread that may be helpful:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10473875/converting-html-to-xml
It mentions HTML Tidy, which can be found here:
I have never used HTML Tidy, but it might be worth a shot!

Hi there!
Another way of achieving what you’re after would be to import your posts to a self-hosted WordPress install. As Jeremey noted, the plugin you found can be used with self-hosted installations of WordPress. You’d then be able to export the posts in a format that would allow them to be imported back to WordPress.com.
I can understand that this process isn’t the most convenient! I’ve gone ahead to send you an email to the address we have on file for you. If you can attach the file you’re trying to import as an attachment, we’ll see if we’re able to help make this process easier for you.
