Have hosting and a domain, could I buy wordpress and build a site to FTP?

  Hello,
  I am currently offering to build a website for a friend, but unfortunately there is already a Website that exists. I would like to build a WordPress website then upload it to their hosting, since they already have a domain name. Is there a way to purchase WordPress, build it, export it to HTML folder structure then FTP it into place?

  This support will be for sites hosted at WordPress.com, and the version of WordPress you want is free. Here’s a bit about the differences- https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  I suggest heading to WordPress.org to learn about the software from there. Hope that helps!
