Have I used this photo already?
-
I’m looking for a way to find out if I’ve already used an image or not. I’ve posted hundreds of images on http://www.heroesnpirates.com and sometimes I want to use one but have the creeping suspicion I’ve already done so in an earlier post. If I click on the image in the media gallery it shows up indicating the post it was used in. Does this show ALL the posts it appeared in or only the most recent? What is the most time efficient way to address this issue? Thanks in advance! Heroes ‘N Pirates

Check in Google image search

Check in your Media Library. -
I’ve just discovered that media library does NOT tell you all the posts you’ve used an image for, just the most recent. This is very frustrating. Again, is there a way to tell if you’ve used a photo before and which posts it was used in? Seems this is a pretty critical function for long-standing photo blogs. Thx

Timethief,
I checked the link you sent. It’s a huge mess of my photos and other stuff I’ve never used. It shows no way of telling if I’ve already posted a photo or merely uploaded it, nor could it easily find, a search function.

I’m sorry but there is no means of searching aside from what you see at this link http://heroesnpirates.com/wp-admin/upload.php or using Google image search.
-
Well that’s unfortunate. Searching makes little sense if it does not inform whether the photo has been used (or used multiple times) but I thank you for telling me!

I might be misunderstanding your purpose, but since a photo can be used multiple times, why is knowing whether it’s been used before critical information?
Here are a few tips for managing the images in your Media Library: Images in the Media Library appear by upload date, with the newest at the top.
You can use the search box to find images, if you remember the file name, or use the dropdown menu which shows a date sort.
Next you can use the links at the top of the Media Library to find unattached images. These images may be appearing as headers or background images or used in your site’s sidebar. It may also be possible to find images that you uploaded but which were not used in either a page or a post.
Lastly, the column headings in the Media Library are links which can help you sort your media.
Let me add a word of caution: Many a frustrated user has come through the forum after “tidying” their Media Library only to discover that the images they deleted were actually used in a post or page. Once deleted, the media is gone without any way to recover it other than uploading it again and reinserting it in the appropriate place.

Actually, if you uploaded the image through a post or Page, WordPress will tell you that the image is “attached” to a specific post and the title of the post now. This is a fairly recent new feature. You will find it in the Attachment Details for that image.
Doesn’t mean you can’t use the same image multiple times, and the advice given is excellent. Be very careful cleaning things up in the Media Library unless you are sure you know what you are doing and have triple verified things.

Just one more comment please. Be aware that Unattached images also includes headers, backgrounds, widgets and even in screenshots. Please see what Staff said here https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/unattached-images-actually-attached?replies=3#post-989551
