Have lost my theme; what has happened?
-
Since about a week or a little more I have lost my theme. I enter my blog (www.exuvia.wordpress.com)and a generic kind of listing appear on my screen. It was working properly for months before this. What has happened?
-
I’m seeing the mistylook theme in both Safari and in Firefox. Try clearing your browser cache and force reloading the page and see what happens.
-
Yes, I tried to change the theme a couple of times to see if it would help and ended up with mistylook. Thanks for being so quick with an answer. Clearing my browser cache… how does one do that?
-
Depends on what browser you are using. In Firefox, go to the tools menu and click on clear private data you can then select or deselect the options and clear your cache. I don’t have windows running right now so I can’t tell you how to do it on IE.

Im actually using firefox to day. Normally I use IE, but for some reason IE stopped appearing above my google search page so I am wondering if a virus of sorts have sneaked in to bother the workings of IE. For now I use firefox and have proceeded to clear my cache. Thanks for that part. Shall now see if it works to improve the loading of my theme. will be right back

Nope, no change. I am still getting a generic script with no theme when visiting my site. Hmmm

FWIW I am viewing your blog in both IE7 and firefox 2.0.0.11 in the Misty Look theme and it’s displaying properly. I do know what you mean though. I have from time to time sen out blogs display as your describe white background, blue links totally generic – the Sandbox look.

Typically after you clear your browser cache you can just click the “reload” button since all the temporary files have been deleted.
Try going to your start menu and finding IE in the programs to see if you can launch it and try viewing your site from it.
What version of FF are you using (help menu > about)?
-
FF 2.0.0.5 but loading as it is a newer version. The ctrl +F5 didn’t do much…
Still got that sand box generic look. -

I normally use IE but something has happened – actually in the same period as I can no longer view my theme – with the browser. The upper part with all the controls etc simply disappear while loading and I am left with a google search page but without all the well known browser stuff. Have to get out by using the task administration quit the task. So not much use right now loading IE.

It sounds like IE is corrupted or something. Possibly a virus. Do you have virus software and is it up-to-date? If so I would recommend running a full scan just to make sure. If all comes back clean, then I would suggest downloading and reinstalling IE.
2.0.0.5 could be problematic. As I remember there were some issues. Let us know what happens after your install the new version. Also, go to http://www.adobe.com and get the flash plugin to make sure you have the correct one for the new version.
One other thing you can do is try clearing the DNS cache. Go to the start menu and then to “run”. The type in ipconfig /flushdns (with a space between the g and the /. I would then reboot/restart your system

BTW here is a link to a microsoft tech note on clearing the DNS cache: http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library/a184e334-2c9f-48c4-abe7-804188200dd91033.mspx?mfr=true

For now will work on the suggestions and come back later if the problem remains. Thank you for lending your hands to a blogger in need

Just back just to say that my theme is working fine again. Don´t know how it disappeared and how it came back again but bottom line, I am content! My sincere respect for the way you look out for others. Thank you.

You’re very welcome and it may well remain a mystery as to why it went away and why it came back. Happy blogging.
