Have Not Been Able to Access My Website in Over 4 Years!
-
Hello everyone. I have been willing to talk to a WordPress staff member in order to access a website that I created back in 2012. I don’t know how many people have this problem, but people who have a Yahoo email account would understand. When I first created my website, I used my Yahoo email account. The thing was that over some time, I have not logged into my Yahoo email, and as a result, my email account was locked.
I noticed that Yahoo had this policy that after 12 months of not accessing your email account, it would become locked and become free to use. I assume that over the last 3 years, someone from the UK created an email account with the same username. Unfortunately, I was never able to access my website. Anytime I try to access it and click the Forget password button, it forwards the new password link to that email, which I can’t access as it belongs to someone else now.
How will I ever be able to recover my account? Do I need to call WordPress? Please quick and helpful responses would be highly recommended. Thank you all!

Since this account is only a few hours old, you would need to sign in or recover the account associated with the WordPressdotcom site you are referring to (which is…?) in order to recover it.
Please note that this is different from resetting your password.

@justjennifer
Hello Jennifer! Thank you for your reply. The account I would like to recover is https://raodrass.wordpress.com/. The thing is that because I cannot access my email from four years ago, I do not know my activation key and authentication codes. Plus, my website was free and was not upgraded. -
@shadowpunch07 as there only appear to be a dozen posts in that site, if I was in your situation of being unable to remember a password I would just copy and paste the images and text into a new WordPress.com site that I had a password for and could continue with..

@themagicrobot
What you said is true. For me, I was even contemplating that. I may do that. Would you happen to know how to get old WordPress themes into this new version of WordPress? -
@shadowpunch07 – If you open a new account, any themes that have been retired in the meantime will not be available in the new account.
In order to use Dusk-to-Dawn, you would need to recover the old account or have someone transfer to you an existing site that’s around the same age as your old account.

Having said that, I would like to suggest that you consider using a newer theme. As time goes on, retired themes are no longer updated and do not support WordPressdotcom’s newer features.
There are a lot of very attractive themes in the Theme Showcase https://wordpress.com/themes/ which may answer your needs. You can use the filters to narrow down the selection.
If you need suggestions, please let us know.

@anybody who happens to read this. This shows that it’s a good idea to make sure your Email address associated with your WordPress account is current and accessible and also to write your password down in a safe place if you think you might not remember it in the future. And it’s a good idea to regularly take an xml export file backup of your site’s contents which could be re-installed if need be (especially if you’ve got a WordPress.org site). If there isn’t too much data that can be achieved in one go. If you have many years-worth of content (and some WordPress sites are now over ten years old ?!?) it pays to split the data into yearly chunks. Then if disaster strikes and the Martians invade or whatever you haven’t lost everything. I’m off to “Settings” “export” to do that right now.

@themagicrobot – Hear, hear!
And if the site in question is using a custom domain, use a non-domain-related email for your account email!
