Have not heard back from 12/22 Request for Help – Re: Missing Comments

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,
It’s been 5 days since I requested help for an issue where I am not getting comments – and some feedback I’ve received notes that my email will not show up and is designated as a “no-reply” account”. I don’t know how to reverse this. I did see that my email on one of the setting screens notes that it will not show- but despite using your help piece and doing extensive research I cannot edit this.

I’m concerned I’m missing more comments. (I will note that I was alerted about this issue by a Blogger writer – I have received some comments via WordPress and any time I’ve commented on another blogs site I have put in my email.)

I really don’t want to be missing feedback or comments from bloggers/visitors who do NOT have a WordPress site and am concerned that, that could be happening. Please please help. As noted in my request 5 days ago, I really need step-by-step instructions vs. simply a link. I have looked at many many settings and find that some either don’t answer my question or are a bit complicated.

    Thank you!!!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you have sent in a support ticket to Staff be aware that there is a backlog. Staff work through all forum threads tagged for their attention and through all email support tickets in order of datestamps and timestamps – first posted first served, as would be expected.
How long it takes to clear the threads and support tickets depends on how many Happiness Engineers are working on them at any given point in time. It also depends on how complex the issues in each thread and ticket are are. Therefore your patience is required.

Thanks Timethief for heads up – I only found this thread when using search engine to check for something related to my blog’s name.

How should I be alerted to responses?

Re: Support thread – I’d submitted 2 x when I could not find help. Should I have submitted another way – didn’t think that there was a way.

Hopefully the Happiness Engineers can help soon – again appreciate your note – I do find that you’re quite timely in giving heads up and often a spot-on solution!

    Hi @theappreciationfactor,

I’ll be happy to help you with this. I’ve checked your settings an you have everything set up so that you get e-mail notices for every comment. So you won’t be missing anything on that front.

Your site is also set up correctly for accepting comments from people without WordPress.com accounts, so you should be fine there as well.

some feedback I’ve received notes that my email will not show up and is designated as a “no-reply” account”.

This is a security measure that protects you from spammers getting your e-mail address. It doesn’t keep any comments from getting to you.

You also have the option of seeing all of your comments and feedbacks from your dashboard. I’ve included links to those pages below for your convenience. (only you will be able to open the links)

    Comments:
    https://theappreciationfactor.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit-comments.php?comment_status=all

    https://theappreciationfactor.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=feedback

I hope that answers your questions. If I’ve missed something, please let me know and I’ll be happy to help.

P.S. You mentioned submitting a request for help earlier, without a response. We definitely don’t want questions to go unanswered. I looked in your support history, but can’t find that thread anywhere. Is it possible you submitted it under a different e-mail address?

    Hi Liz,
Thank you for you looking in to this for me. This was detailed, but not sure I’m all set just yet. I am getting comments on my blogs from my followers, but it was a Blogger blogger who said that once I’d written a comment on her blog – she couldn’t comment back – or on my blog. She noted that my “account” (whatever that meant to her) said that I had a “No Reply email”. However I did include my email (it was mandatory) when I commented on her blog.

Could you clarify this part – Is there a compatibility issue with Blogger bloggers from being able to comment/reply to WordPress bloggers?

I greatly appreciate your assistance and time. I’ve loved using this site and my reach is really starting to increase which is thrilling!

In terms of my first submission – this is the only email I have for my blog and I’d submitted it the exact same way.

I look forward to hearing back from you.
    K @TAF

My sense is this was an isolated incident. It sounds like the blogger was trying to reply to your comment by replying to the notification e-mail she received rather than by going back to her site to respond to your comment there.

She noted that my “account” (whatever that meant to her) said that I had a “No Reply email”. However I did include my email (it was mandatory) when I commented on her blog.

How did she contact you with this info?

    Hi,
Sorry for the delay. I’m hoping you’re correct re: isolated incident and that perhaps her email alert may be the reason.

She alerted me as I was a little offended that I’d thought she’d blown me off – I’d promoted her site on mine. So I wrote asking if she’d even received my note (My comment was “published” on her blog). She said yes, but when she tried to reply she’d received that “error” message.

She noted that blogger blogs have steps to fix.
Here’s her comment that lead me to reach out to WP:

I realized that your profile is set up as a “no-reply” account, which I did not notice until just now. What that means is that when you leave a comment and that blogger goes to reply to your comment, there’s no email address attached to it, so the email gets lost somewhere in the interwebs and you never receive it! I’d love to respond to your comments in the future, so here’s a post on how to fix this issue so you can hear from me and other bloggers: http://anyonecandecorate.blogspot.com/2012/09/are-you-no-reply-blogger-how-to-fix.html

When I do comment on her blog – it will let me “sign-in” as a WordPress user, but unlike my blog – it does not provide a field for “email”.

Do you still think it’s isolated?

  • Unknown's avatar

That means you are trying to comment on a Blogger ie. blogspot.com blog and that their software does not recognize your WordPress.COM identity due to the comment setting the blogspot blogger has chosen to use. See here for an explanation: Crazymaking Blogger Comment Settings > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2013/08/10/crazymaking-blogger-comment-settings/

I sort of understood what the link was saying – thanks for jumping in TimeThief – but I’m not getting any kind of error when I post. It gets “sent” OK – as I can later see it’s posted.
On my last post to her I added my email in the comment manually. Hers is the ONLY blog that I see that Does NOT ask for my email. Other blogs I’ve commented on do ask for my email before they will allow me to submit the comment.

Perhaps then it’s only her site that is “blocking” comments b/c of this set up?

I don’t have a lot of experience with Blogger, but TimeThief’s explanation seems likely. If you’d care to share the link to your friend’s Blogger blog, I’m happy to investigate further.

If you’d rather not share the link publicly, let me know and we can move this conversation to a private e-mail support thread.

    Liz,
If you had a moment and could look further – a Private email thread would be great.
    THANK YOU!

    Thanks again TimeThief as well.

No problem. Look for an e-mail from me. I’ll close this thread so we don’t get confused on where to post.
