Have the homepage display only the most recent post
-
I wanted to change my homepage to display only my most recent post in its entirety but I couldn’t figure out how to do that?

Hi there,
By default your theme (Gateway) only has the option to show a post “excerpt” and link to continue reading the full article, as you can see here: https://gatewaydemo.wordpress.com/blog/
There is not an option to display the full post contents on the main blog “feed” pages, so to do that you will need to switch to a theme that has this option. https://wordpress.com/themes/
Just check the demo site for any theme you are interested in, if you can see the full post displayed on the demo site, the full post content will display on your site as well. Hope this helps!

Hi. On Gateway, there is an option at Customize > Content Options > Blog Display, that determines whether full posts or excerpts are displayed on the blog and archive pages.” On the other hand, a page with the Homepage Template assigned to it, like the homepage of the Gateway demo, will only display excerpts of featured content posts (unless the content is under 55 words in length).

Have the homepage display only the most recent post
How to do this on Gateway depends on whether you’re displaying the latest posts or a static page on the homepage. If the former, then there is an option at Customize > Content Options > Blog Display that determines whether full posts or excerpts are displayed on the blog and archive pages. To limit the number of posts displayed on the blog page and archives page, see the following instructions:Steps to setting the post per page limit:
1. Disable infinite scroll, if it’s not already disabled. See the Disabling Infinite Scroll section of the Infinite Scroll support page for instructions.2. With infinite scroll disabled you may set the number of posts displayed per page at My Site(s) > Settings > Writing > Content types. The number can be changed by simply clicking on the up/down arrows. When you’ve reached the desired number, save the change. See the Content Types section of the Writing Settings support page for relevant instructions and illustration.
Note that this setting not only affects the blog page, but also all archives pages such as year, month, and date archives, category and tag archives, author archives, etc.
If you instead display a static page on the homepage, then the instructions would be different. Let me know if you want those instructions for that case.
