Having a lot of trouble Redirecting urls?
-
Hello.
I want to redirect my urls from my free wordpress.com site to my new .com site (that’s also from WordPress). My free site doesn’t allow plugins, so how do I redirect my links?
I’ve already migrated my amberdaulton.wordpress.com site to wordpress.org, so I could further migrate it to my new amberdaulton.com site. I’ve installed redirect plugins on the .com, but they aren’t working. From what I’ve been told by the creator of the Redirection plugin, all redirect plugins need to be on the wordpress.com.
So what are my options here? What can we do to redirect my links?
Please help!!
Thanks!

Redirections need to be set on the site that needs redirecting, so the plugin author was correct.
If you’re trying to redirect traffic from
amberdaulton.wordpress.comto a new site hosted elsewhere you would need to purchase the Site Redirect upgrade:https://wordpress.com/support/site-redirect/#getting-started
I hope that helps! Let us know if you have any questions.

Hi!
Thanks for responding.
Yeah, I already knew about the paid Redirect upgrade. I was hoping to find something else, but that doesn’t seem likely. I’d be fine paying for the upgrade if the change was permanent, but it’s only temporary. (I can’t afford to keep buying multiple one-year plans to keep redirecting my older links. I’ll get expensive after a while.)
It looks like I have no other choice but to close/set my old site to private, or delete everything on there (all my pages) and just keep the posts, so visitors with those links can refer to those pages. But since I was able to migrate all those pages to my new site, I’m worried about the SEO, duplicate content, and confusing readers by having two sites.
Decisions, decisions. It’s frustrating sometimes.
Any advice about what would be best?
Thanks!!

I’d recommend doing the Site Redirect upgrade for one year. That will let most of your visitors and all of the search engines catch up.
After the first year, cancel the upgrade or disable auto-renew, and empty the site’s content replacing it with a “we’ve moved” post for any stragglers.
