Having a separate blog vs. having the blog as part fo my website

Hey all, I am about to start a blog to go with my new website CreativeGreenWellness.com (not the blog that I already have with wordpress now that I never finished– changed my mind and different name). I am VERY new to blogging, so I am confused with all the options. A few things I am clear on– I do want to have ads (affiliate programs) of some wholesome products I truly believe in related to the services I offer and what I want to blog about (eco and wellness tips and insights). I know I cannot do with WordPress.com. Through Godaddy I discovered I can use the WordPress publishing platform (who is currently hosting my website), but do I loose anything by not signing up directly through WordPress, like the chance to be a featured blog on “Freshly Pressed”or searchable through “Reader” or being featured in general (if WP thinks my blog rocks)?

Thanks so much and Happy Earth Day!!

You cannot have the benefits that issue to free hosted WordPress.com blogs by setting up a WordPress.org install. The two are completely separate and WordPress.org installs are not part of this WordPress.com community. You have to choose one or the other. Please read WordPress.com vs WordPress.org

Thanks so much! I think I am finally getting it. Can one start out with a WordPress.com blog and later change it to a WordPress.org blog without loosing any followers and the all the work put into the original blog?

    Thanks!

You need to have a custom domain name right from the first day in order not to lose any followers when you switch over, but it can be done and isn’t hard.
