Having a website and blog in one place

I used WordPress to make a website so I used the permanent links to display http://www.xyz.com (for seo) but I also want to add a blog section to it as well. So when I went to make a post and save it I saw the permanent link was http://www.xyz.com/http://www.xyz.com. So it is not displaying the blog part properly. When I click on the link I get a Sorry the page you were looking for could not be retrieved. Why don’t you take a look through our archives? So I installed the plugin Blog in blog to see if it would fix this but it does is show a small portion of the post but when you click more it goes back to the 404. How can I get the blog portion of the website to display correctly?
