Having domain issues

  I started a wordpress blog, bought a domain name and hosting. I paid the $12.00 to have my domain name pushed to my blog and I set up wordpress with hostgator for my hosting. In my admin area I no longer see my howtobeme.com but howtobemedotcom.wordpress.com? Is there something I have yet to do? Also I know wordpress.com does not offer plugins, how do I use them if I set up my own hosting account?

  When I go to howtobeme.com it says, “The domain howtobeme.com is for sale. To purchase, call…”

  When I go to howtobemyself.com (the site linked to your username) it takes me to a wordpress.com site. If you want howtobemyself.com to be your site set up at hostgator, then you have to change the DNS records for your domain name to point to hostgator.

  Also once you start blogging on the hostgator installation, you will no longer be connected in anyway to wordpress.com. Your site will be completely stand-alone.

  As far as using the wordpress software you have installed at hostgator, you will have to have a look around over at wordpress.ORG as that is where the software you will be using is supported. Check the Docs section for information on using the software. For quetions, you will need to post in the wordpress.ORG forums. You will have to set up another username and password at .ORG as it is not connected with wordpress.COM.

  You are welcome. Good luck getting that name. In my experience going after those for clients, they all seem to be way to “proud” of the name and want way too much money for them.

  I have searched all over and I cannot find A) how to sign up for wordpress.org B) how to change my wordpress.com to wordpress.org. Does anyone have any thoughts? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance

  Did you read the links provided by thesacredpath in his response above? Those are the links to the support document you should be reading and, if you have any further questions, the forum where you should be asking.
