Having issues inserting pictures?
-
I’m not sure what’s going on. When I go to insert a picture in my posts, I have to do it more than once. I click the little picture of a tree, insert my http link, hit insert & instead of a picture, I get a period. I have to backspace that out, then do it all again. It’s not a major issue, but annoying, since my blog uses a lot of images.
I’m using Internet Explorer 7 & Windows XP.
Thanks in advanced for any suggestions or input.

I haven’t seen this one in awhile. I would try clearing your browser cache and see if that helps. As well, when you click on the ‘tree’ icon and enter in your information, is the URL of the photo 100% correct? When it sends it to the editor, what does it put in exactly? If you use the ‘code’ tab and try adding the image, what does that spit out?

Make me switch editors. :(
Is this an image hosted within your space here at wp.com or elsewhere?
What is the URL of the image that you’re trying to add in? (I’m wondering if it’s a site that doesn’t allow hotlinking)

I’m having what I will call a “similar” issue.
When I insert a picture hosted by wp.com, the picture pops up just like usual. Then I click on the tree icon just like I always do to adjust it’s placement on the page. That’s when the funky stuff starts.
First, after I hit “okay”, the picture turns into the periods just like Amy mentioned. What I think I’ve figured out is that when I go to edit the picture, it’s stripping the pic of its size, and these periods are a 0x0 pic. I’ve gotten around this by resizing the picture just a tiny bit before I hit the “tree” icon.
However, when I do that, the picture comes up twice. Both are formatted correctly and are identical, but for some reason, I get two.
I too am using IE 7 and XP

I am getting 2 photos when I put in a URL if I go into it a 2nd time to edit the post, there will be 2 pictures. I have to delete one of them – when I view the code the URL is there 2 times.

Perhaps you would both like to try this “non-technical” approach.
(1) Turn off the visual text rich editor -> Users -> Your Profile (uncheck the box and click “Update Options”.
(2) Now pre-size the images to the exact size you wish them to be in your post using Photoshop, Paint, Gimp or a similar program.
(3) Then upload the presized images using the standard editor. What is the result?

trent… I’m copying the link directly from photobucket, so I know the link is correct.
drmike… I’m using links from photobucket. That’s where I have always stored my pictures. I’ve never had problems until Sunday.
As far as changing the size… I like the pictures the size they are. I’ve never had to resize them in the past. This is just something I’ve noticed since Sunday. I will clear out my cache & see if that works.
Thank you everyone.

Are you still experiencing these problems?
If so, have you tried clearing your browsers? -
I am still experiencing these problems. I have cleared my browser’s cache. I have not tried turning off the Visual Text Rich Editor because for the previous six months it’s been on and I haven’t had this problem. I don’t remember exactly when it started (sometime last week? I know it was before this past weekend.), but it’s really annoying. It’s not hard to fix, it’s not hard to work around, it’s just annoying.
I also typically upload my pictures in the exact size I want them (only resizing them on wordpress when I realize I screwed up or decide that a little smaller would work). That’s one of the reasons my temp fix of “quickly grab the handles and resize) is such a pain… it throws off my proportions.

I’ve had that issue as well; something has changed on WP’s back end, and we need to let staff know about it, so do send them a Feedback when support reopens. IE7 is a very common browser, and WP should work with it.
As I said, something’s changed, so what worked before won’t work now. Try inserting the picture in the Code editor, then switching back. That worked for me. You don’t need to change to a default Code editor. Until WP fixes whatever is borked, that’s the best way I can see to avoid this issue.

It’s gone back to not working for me, again. It worked for a couple of pictures after I cleared out my cache… but now I’m getting the periods again. Like ifbguy… it’s worked up until this past Sunday, and I haven’t changed anything I was doing. So I don’t understand why it’s not working now.
