Having multiple blog rolls on a blog
-
I am using The Coraline Theme for my blog. I have one blog roll. I would like to have two. But the theme I am using does not seem to allow this. Is there a free theme I could use to accomplish my intention? Thank you.

It is not possible to have more than one blogroll. What you can do is to assign your links to different categories by editing them under Links ->All Links in the dashboard. The links will then be grouped under the category headings within the Links widget, making it appear as if you have separate blogrolls.
The only other option is to manually insert your links in a text widget (you’ll have to use html to do that). You can then insert different links in two different text widgets.

I agree. Is there is a widget that needs to be added or activated, and/or is there a theme that should be used?

It works to separate the links, but it doesn’t create different separate widgets. On the dashboard Links page, put your links in there and categorize them however you like. Then when you put the blogroll/links widget in the sidebar, it has different categories broken out as if they are separate widgets.
There is no way to have two or more separate and different blogroll widgets unless you use a text widget that you code by hand in HTML.

Thanks, again, but nothing advised works. So I will stay with the basic blogroll, and it will be a cluttered mess. It sure would be helpful if this sort of issue could be addressed in a clear, concise, and complete matter.

Make. A. Text. Widget. It does exactly what you want. And read the full comment before dismissing it next time.
If you don’t know how to make a text widget with links, check the Support documents. http://support.wordpress.com/

Kokkieh: Thank you for the information, but the desired intention still does not work, which leads me back to part of my original question – I am using The Coraline Theme theme, which does not allow for what I want to do. Is there a free theme I can use to create a blogroll which contains visible categories – for example: Museums, libraries, galleries – which I can put the links into instead of having a very long blogroll that is undeniably cluttered looking?

I’ve added a blogroll widget in the Coraline Theme that uses the category system that other volunteers explained in that thread–you can see it by clicking the link below and looking in the column on the left side of the page: http://lowhangingfruit.us/
If that’s the kind of organization you are looking for than it is possible by first assigning your links to categories and then adding the widget to your page.
Is that what you are going for or are you wanting something different?

I’ll take a stab at this one:
I made an Coraline theme example page showing the blogroll using two categories. http://sugardazzle.wordpress.com/2014/06/17/test/
If this is what you were going for, here are instructions:
1. Create your categories:
In your Dashboard, click ‘Link Categories’ under the ‘Links’ heading in the left sidebar menu.
Add the Link Categories you want, ie: Galleries, Libraries, Museums.2. Organize your links into their specific categories:
Click ‘All Links’ under ‘Links in the left sidebar menu.
Hover over the link name you want to change the category for and click the ‘edit’ link’.
Scroll down and deselect the currently selected category and select the checkbox for the correct category.
Scroll up and click the ‘Update Link’ button.
Repeat for every other link you want to change the category for.3. Make sure you are using the ‘Links’ widget and set it up:
Click ‘Widgets’ under the ‘Appearance’ heading in the left sidebar menu.
Under ‘Available Widgets’, scroll down to ‘Links’ Your blogroll and click on ‘Links’.
Click on which widget area you want to add your blogroll to and click the ‘Add Widget’ button.
Choose ‘All Links’ for the ‘Select Link Category:’ drop-down menu.
Click the ‘Save’ button.
