having my own display name for comments

  • Unknown's avatar

I am a kid and my mom helped me start a blog under her wordpress account (she has her own blog). When I respond to one of my visitor’s comments or comment on someone else’s blog, it is automatically using my mom’s user name. I really want it to say my name (Maddy). Is there a way to change the author name for my comments to my own blog and not use my mom’s name? My mom still wants her display name for her blog. Thanks!!!!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Kids are not allowed to register accounts and blog here at all until they are 13 years old. That’s the law and it’s clearly stated in the Terms of Service http://en.wordpress.com/tos/ Logging in under anyone else’s login information creates a security breach and makes the blog vulnerable to hacking. It’s definitely not a practice that WordPress.com supports at all. http://en.support.wordpress.com/security/

There is only one gravatar and one display name for every username account. And one can only link a single primary blog to their username. Bottom line: we cannot help you and if you are under 13 years of age you ought not to be here at all.

Are kids allowed to write a blog with their parents (under their parents account) with their parents’ supervision?

  • Unknown's avatar

Do you see that stated in the Terms of Service?
    I don’t.

As you are not 13 years of age or older having this conversation in a thread on a forum where every thread is indexed by Google and is available to everyone on the internet is a big mistake. Go to your mother now and stop posting to this support forum at once.

I am doing this blog WITH my daughter…she is writing everything under my supervision. IS this ok? Is there a way to contact a person at wordpress support to ask about this?

THis is Mom — I just found this: “Both have a minimum age requirement of 13 – you can see WordPress’s terms of service here. It doesn’t mean that you can’t blog if you’re under 13, it just means that your parent or adult guardian will need to be the one who opens the account, and then you can use it under their supervision.” As the parent, I have opened the account and am supervising all activity, so this looks to be legal. In all of our posts, we were always just asking if a username under the parent’s account and the parent’s email. Your message seemed unnecessarily harsh.

Please check out http://kidsblogclub.com/. There are a TON of kids who blog, many under age 13, on wordpress and blogger. They just do it under their parents’ accounts and supervision. The site even lists the ‘most brilliant kid bloggers’ and the ‘top 10 book review blogs written by kids’.

Any child under the age of 13 may create a blog on WordPress.com with their parent’s guidance.

Regarding your original question, the name displayed with your comments on WordPress.com is associated with your WordPress.com account — there’s no way to change the name per-blog. If you’d like your own name to display, you’ll want to create a separate WordPress.com account just for your blog. Again, with your parent’s permission, this is not a problem.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
