Having problems adding new tags

I’ve adding new tags before, but today whenever I type in a new tag and hit “add” from the write/edit post page, it just chugs and chugs and nothing ever happens. Anyone know what’s going on? Thank you.

Have you tried to add them here? =>Manage => Categories => Add New (fill in the fields and click “Add Category” to save)

I’ve been trying to add new categories today and keep getting a “You don’t have permission to do that” error message.

If you have tried to add categories where I indicated and you’re getting this error message then it’s time to send in a feedback to staff (button on top right hand corner of any blog page). Volunteers on the forum do not have backend access to blogs and only staff can sort this for you. -

I’m new and trying to get my head around a few labels in WordPress. Is “category” another term for “tag”?

Also note that resources like Technorati see your categories as tags within their system.

msrina, Just so you know, you’re not alone. I’ve been having this trouble too and tried TT’s suggested remedy, which worked. Still, I’m going to send in a feedback, because it would be nice to add categories from the same page as your post.

The place that I indicated for adding categories =>Manage => Categories => Add New (fill in the fields and click “Add Category” to save) was originally the only place we could add them, until the feature of “adding categories on-the-fly” was introduced. So I’m not taking any credit for this as a “remedy”. ;) -
Thank you, bloglily. Adding from the post page is still buggy. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. But I found the categories management page and it works fine.

I have found that I can only add new categories “on-the-fly” from the “Write” page. Once my post has been saved even once, new categories won’t add. Hmm.
Also, I’m having trouble putting categories in the proper order
at the bottom of posts, not in the sidebar widget. It seems to just choose its own order without rhyme or reason. Any ideas? Thanks much! -
If I remember right, the categories are displayed in order of category ID number. There’s really no way to change that as the ID numbers are sitewide.

(1) You should be able to add new categories where I described above => =>Manage => Categories => Add New (fill in the fields and click “Add Category” to save) and if you can’t, then you’ll need to report this to staff after the weekend by way of a sending in a feedback.
Once my post has been saved even once, new categories won’t add.
(2) It may be that I don’t understand you but you should be able to edit and add new categories to any post that’s been saved. And if not then that should be reported to staff in the feedback too.
Also, I’m having trouble putting categories in the proper order
at the bottom of posts …(3) I’ve noticed this “re-arranging” on my blog also but don’t think it’s important what order they are in as they all end up on separate wordpress.com category/tag pages anyway. But again if you’re sending in a feedback I think you should include that too.
