Having real problems publishing photos and keeping the blog formatted.

  Hi folks,

  Having huge problems when I upload photos to post on the blog. It sends all the formatting out. It also only shows 2 out of the three photos I tried to upload but merges the captions for the last two.

  The whole thing looks a right dogs breakfast see here http://thedrunkbirder.wordpress.com/

  What am I doing wrong? I can’t find anything useful on the support site.

  It looks like the photos are too wide for the column, which might be causing some of the problems.

  What are the size guidelines for wordpress? I edit most of my photos to 1400×800 pixels for my website and for blogger. I’ve moved over from blogger after some idiot hijacked one of my posts.

  It varies from theme to theme. You can always use the thumbnail option when you upload.

  That didn’t work with that theme. will try other themes. If not I’ll return to blogger…

  It should work with any theme except Monotone. I see your thumbnails okay, but can’t click on them. You need to set them to “link to file”.

  Cheers but if I set it to link to file will that work as the photos are on my laptop.

  No, they’re already uploaded (otherwise we wouldn’t be able to see the thumbnail versions). When you upload, the whole file is uploaded, but then you are given various options of how they will be displayed: file size (full size), thumbnail, small, medium. I should think that small and medium would work in your blog, as well as the thumbnail option. But if you would like your readers to be able to click through to the full version, then you need to make sure that you have the Link to File option checked. When you have done that once, it will become the default option.
