Having Trouble Updating a PDF Media File

I had a PDF named ws6-win72.pdf which I wanted to update with a new version. Couldn’t find any UPDATE feature, so I deleted ws6-win72.pdf and then uploaded the new ws6-win72.pdf. But WordPress added the number 1 to the filename so now it’s ws6-win721.pdf. Which I don’t want. I tried deleting that, and uploading again, now the name is ws6-win722.pdf. Which I deleted. How do I upload a new ws6-win72.pdf and keep that name?

    Thanks.

    You don’t

I never send out file name links – always Post / Page links & I change file names before uploading for version control

If the name is important the file will need to be hosted on somewhere like Dropbox and then linked to the offsite file

(Sigh) I was afraid of that.

A completely new document that supplants the old one is already posted and listed on my home page. The problem is folks are likely passing around a specific link to the old document filename. I wanted to have a new version of the old file that would tell someone going to that old URL, “Hey, this is outdated. Here’s a link to the new info.”

    Thanks for answering.

    You be welcome

That’s why I only send Post or Page links – then when I update a file (new file name), I put a note on the Post or Page about the update & the date –

    Good luck
