having trouble updating to the latest version of wordpress

Ive had this wordpress site for a long time. Its been a while since I last used it. Im just now updating it and im running into some issues. im unable to change some things, seems a little broken so i am trying to update my wordpress to the latest version. I am having trouble getting the FTP to connect to my site. could you help?
