Having trouble with a widget enabled theme

  My theme is supposed to be widget ready 3 column WordPress theme named http://www.area381.com/. Is there a way I can add or fix this? I’ve tried to contact the author with no reply. I’ve downloaded the upgrade and changed all the theme files, but the widgets still don’t work. Is there anything else I can do?
